Switching My Mom's Bedroom Around

I am so happy to participate in this week's Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ If you have not visited Susan's blog, you really should. I promise you won't be sorry because her blogs are always interesting. Please go and check out the other participants' postings too. We can always pick up good ideas from them.

My mom rotates among us 5 brothers and sisters in 4 states. Last summer and fall, she stayed with us in MS but moved to my sister's in IL for the winter ( you might wonder why she would stay there when it is cold, but dh and I had to go away on a trip and we could not leave her alone at home. She will be 91 in July). I picked this particular room for her to occupy because it is the second room in the house that has its own bathroom. After she left, I switched her bedroom around.

Please click on this picture to display full size. Take a look at the plates on the wall. They are Norman Rockwell plates showing mothers caring for a child.

That's my mom's picture when she was 18.

I think either way works but what do you think? Which furniture arrangement do you like better?

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I like the bed on the long wall better than in between the two windows...but that is just my opinion...

I do love that your Mom shares time with each of you. I am sure there are some tough times...but the memories are priceless!

  2. Hi Christine! I like what you have done! I keep telling you people would pay big bucks to have someone come in and do what you do. I think your title should be life coordinator. You come in, rearrange their spaces, teach them how to cook, help them set the table...including fresh flowers, and help them host a dinner party. Hey...this could be a TV show!! For real! Have a great week...Debbie

  3. Christine...great change! The room feels a lot larger now to me with the bed in the new position! What did your Mom think? Did she like it, too? Most of my rooms only work one way for my furniture...it's so nice to be able to try different ways like this. Thanks for this MM post...love seeing the changes! :-) Susan

  6. I like the bed in the new position, with the chair centered between the windows. It looks much brighter and more spacious. You're very blessed to still have your mom, and to have her take turns staying with each of you and your sibs.

GM Christine..You know girl I like it both ways..I just love the fact that you have your sweet Mama there with you..but the second way does look like her bed is closer to the bathroom...which we all need...Your Mama is a beauty girl and I always told you that and how lucky you are to still have her..great job...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

  13. I like the chair out of the corner much better. I also like the way you brought the picture arrangement closer together when you moved the bed. That dust ruffle is a perfect match to the quilt and other bed linens.

This is a wonderful and spacious room. You're not only a wonderful Mother, but a loving and caring Daughter as well.

  21. Christine! So happy you joined blog land, welcome to the jungle! :) I much prefer the bed along the wall than between the two windows - seems to make more sense that way, and it flows nicely.

  23. Hi Christine...I did enlarge the picture of the NR plates...how perfect for your art in your dear mom's room. Wow, she is 91 and still able to travel among her childrens' homes...that's awesome. The way the furniture is arranged now, she can see out of the windows...I'll bet she;ll like that! ;-) Bo

So happy to see that you stopped by this morning...thank you for all of your sweet compliments! And in answer to your question...I caught Russell (but don't tell him...he thinks he was the one doing all of the catching...hehe!)

Girlfriend, I remember seeing your Mom's room on RMS and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it!!! I love the pretty green and lavender together! Love how you changed the bedroom around...and honestly? I think it looks great either way but it's always nice to make a change once in awhile!!! Those pretty plates look fabulous above the bed though...love that change!!!

    Have a great Monday, Sweetie...

  28. Christine... I like the new way of the room arrangement. I like to wake up and be able to look out the window from my bed... Mom will really enjoy the room upon her return. It also makes it a little closer to the restroom for her at night... which at any age over 50 is great! (I should know!)

I love the color in the room too, glad you didn't change that. It's so warm and inviting. I think I'll just forward your post to my adult children.. what a great idea... wonder if they'd go for it? ;)

    warm hugs! Dixie

ps... I'm for Mississippi... my sister still lives near Jackson in Forest... Just visited her in December... beautiful state!

  31. Christine, I am very pleased to make your acquaintance ... I've read everything you have posted thus far and especially loved the wedding story and photos ... I like your mother's bed on the wall so that she can awaken to the beginning of a new day when she looks out the windows.

  32. I love the new arrangement. It seems so much lighter and cheerful now. I am not sure why. But, you've done a wonderful job.
