It's also Outdoor Wed. and this is not wordless so I can talk. Yipee! Outdoor Wed. is hosted by Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Let's all go visit her and see all the awesome outdoor posts.
Last Sunday while in the shower to get ready for church, the light in the shower started flickering and finally blacked out. I stepped out of the shower and immediately put on some clothes and looked outside. It was 9:45 AM but there was total darkness. ...really freaky! Luckily, we have a centralized generator that kicks in 5 seconds after power goes off. I looked out and the wind was howling and rain started coming really hard. I grabbed my camera and started taking a video but stopped after I got too scared. The wind started blowing so hard towards the house vertically at about 70 MPH. I was pretty sure one or more of the tall trees in the backyard will topple over and hit the house. You can watch the video at the bottom and you will notice that I started praying as I was shutting the camera off. I immediately went to the middle of the house in the hall to avoid getting hit in case any windows break. Then the phone rang and it was John who told me to stay in the house, possibly inside a closet. He had just left to make rounds and he said he was soaking wet.
Just look at the pea size hail.
Just look at the pea size hail.
This is one of the houses in our neighborhood. I knew that wind was dangerous.
another one in our neighborhood
This is our next door neighbor's house.
Luckily my prayers were answered and this is the extent of our damage. The wind blew our chimney covers. One fell all the way to the ground.
The other one came off but stayed on the roof and the other one was still in place but ready to come off. And a tree branch fell off a tree but it was not big enough to cause any damage. And wouldn't you know it that before we could put the chimney covers back, chimney swifts already took over the chimney and you can hear them chittering so loud in the morning and at dusk. Now, we'll have to wait until after the baby birds fly out before we can put the covers back so the mom can feed them.
Please watch the video. Sorry I had to turn it off when the wind started blowing really hard cause I had to take cover.
Thanks Susan for taking the effort of hosting this event and thanks everyone for coming for a visit. I hope you enjoyed your visit cause I surely enjoyed having you.
Hi Christine! Your "mother" pics are wonderful! I'm sorry you had such a bad storm. We had one, too, about a month ago with quarter sized hail. I have damage to my roof and siding. It's been a rough Spring, huh? have a great week, at least! Glad you are safe and sound!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteI love your mother pictures. What a horrible storm, I'm sure you were terrified. I'm glad you had only minor damage and that you were safe. Hugs, Kathy
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful big family you have! It is so great that you have a picture of all that attended the party!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the storm that came through you neighborhood. Praise the Lord your home was spared! Be sure to keep the doors shut or the birdies will fly into your house!
We didn't get a hail or windy storm we are getting a lot of rain that is flooding a lot of the fields and roads here in WV and some home but not close to my house this time! Looks like we might get flooded in again tomorrow!

Boy Christine that was some storm. Thank God you only had minor damage. I feel sorry for your neighbors. Growing up our neighborhood was hit by a tornado and the houses at the end of the block were flattened. It's awful and scary. But thank goodness you have the ultimate Mother to watch over you! You have lots of sweet Mother decor...If I don't get a chance to tell you beforehand I wand to wish for you a very Happy Mother's Day. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteOh my Christine. I'm so glad you didn't suffer any further damage. Yikes that tree in your neighbors roof is horrible! Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI so loved your family photo---and am so sorry about the terrible storm!! So far (knocking real hard on the wood table right now!) we've had a pretty calm spring, but we live in Tornado Ally, so it's not over yet!!

Loved your "mother" pictures. That storm must be the same one that blew through here. I didn't know until the next day that we had had a small tornado at the entrance to our subdivision. We got lots of hail too. Scary.

I'm so glad you made it through the storm with little damage. I visited a friend in Kansas several years ago when they were having tornado warnings......I was SO scared. We don't generally get big winds here in the NW........however we do "shake" from time to time! :-)

ReplyDeleteThat must have been some storm. Were you anywhere near the storm that took the roof off the Dallas Cowboy's Practice field? There has been some wild weather this spring. Thank goodness you and your home made it through alright. It's too bad about a couple of your neighbors though. Storms can be so hit and miss it's strange.
ReplyDeleteI like the Mother pillow you showed, very pretty, have a terrific day!

Sue
The mothers day tribute was wonderful. Did I read right that your mom is 90 years old?
ReplyDeleteThat video of the wind and rain storm was frightening. Mother nature can be pretty intense sometimes.
It was very fortunate that no one was hurt. I hope you've all recouped from the storm.
Your porch tablescape (on the previous post) is the perfect spring setting. It looked so inviting. The new arbor looked cushy as well with the seats. Yup, I could see some time spent reading in that spot.
Sweet wishes,
Sara
You have some great "Mother pictures!"
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't have any serious storm damage.
Katherine
Hey X! I've had you on my mind so thought I'd pop over and I must say again your entire family is beautiful. Great generational picture. I love all of your sweet mother items, but my favorite is your mother’s 90th birthday celebration. It is amazing to think of all the experiences she has had in those 90 years. And, the blessing of such a big family is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite a storm you witnessed. I am so sorry for all of your neighbor’s damage to their homes. Thank goodness you were kept safe. Nicole
