I opened my Blog dashboard and I saw Shelia's Tablescape Thursday post. I did not even realize it is already Thursday tomorrow until then. We just arrived from London late last night and I have been so busy unpacking, both luggage and boxes that came in the mail.
But hey, I missed TT last week since I was out of the country but there is no reason to miss this week's, right?
Come on, let's all visit Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ and Leigh at http://lbratina.blogspot.com/ to check out this week's creativity on the table and awesome great deal finds.
So I hurrried up and created this.
And what better way to create a mini tablescape than using our game table in the family room?
Do you see the pair of brass candlestick holders? I got them at a flea market in Vidalia during the balloon festival for $2.00 for the pair. They are solid and heavy. They are my contribution for Thrifty Thursday.
I just unpacked these dishes today. They came in while we were gone. They are vintage, Bavarian Tirschenreuth china in Rosedale pattern. I won them on Ebay. I was watching the auction and I was ready to place a bid at the last 30 seconds when my internet service went out. I was so mad and needless to say, I lost the bidding. It was a complete service for 8 including serving pieces in hardly used condition and it only went for $89 for the whole set.
The next day, I was notified by Ebay that the item was relisted so I went to it and this time it had a $150.00 "Buy It Now" option so I bought the set. I don't know what happened to the first winner but it looks like the deal did not go through. You see, Tirschenreuth had been out of business since the 30's so I know these dishes are old. And when we went to an estate auction a few days before we left London, the set of dishes of the same quality were going for over $800.00. I could not even bid cause I knew I would never pay that much.
I think they are pretty, don't you? Unfortunately, some pieces were broken during transport. I still have to collect from the insurance company but there are still enough left in the set which makes the set still worth what I paid for, I think.
Since I used the brass candlesticks holder, I also used brass plate chargers and flatware. The flatware also have mahogany in the handles and they are marked "Siam".
Unfortunately, the cover for the round vegetable server was one of the broken items and it makes me sick because I just checked the value on Replacements.com, the covered vegetable is worth $159.95. I wonder how much the value is without the cover.

I told you this is quick one. I forgot to put my goblets, lol. Sorry!
It's gorgeous! I think this is my favorite tablescape of yours, (it's running pretty close with your french toile tablescape that you did a while back anyway!LOL!) I love the china that you got and that quilted runner is the icing on the cake here! Amazing that you put it all together so quickly too...you are good girl!
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs,
Queenie
It would take me all afternoon to "throw" a table like that together. It is lovely. And the setting is beautiful. I might eat many dinners on that game table in front of the fire.
ReplyDeleteYour china is stunning and you showed it off so well with everything you used on your table. I'm glad you shared.
Yvonne

The location of your TT this week is so cozy & warm looking & I LOVE your new dishes! I'm sorry to hear some were broken in transit. Don't people kknow about TONS of bubble wrap??? That's a shame, since they are irreplaceable. I hope they were well insured.
ReplyDeleteChristine, you always do such a beautiful table whether it's impromptu or not. I love your new dishes. So sorry that some of the pieces were broken, that is such a shame. Such a beautiful pattern. Your candlesticks are lovely too and what a steal of a price. So glad you're home and I look forward to hearing more about your trip. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteIt looks really pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe plates look so elegant.
You have more of a collection than the entire flea market I have visited in itself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have missed talking to u!!!!!!!

Hi Girlfriend...
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! How was London? I never heard you say whether it was a pleasure trip or for business...sure hope you had a great time either way! Will you be sharing a few photos of your trip with us for your Saturday travel adventures?
Girl, for just "throwing" this table together you did GOOD! Hehe! I love, love, LOVE your new Bavarian china...simply gorgeous! Ohh...I bet you were mad when you lost your internet connection while about to bid. That's happened with us before as well! I guess that's when it would be handy to use that Auction Sniper that Vanna told us about. I think you make your bid way ahead of time and then they put your bid on it at the last second...for you! Anyway...so glad that it worked out for you! Shoot...so sorry that some of those fabulous dishes were broken during shipping! I tell ya...I've been so disheartened with the mail service lately! They just keep taking their prices up but quality of service has really gone downhill! I don't know how many boxes we've gotten that are just so banged up that it's amazing that anything makes it in one piece! Okay...getting down off of my soapbox now! Hehe!
Back to your beautiful table! I love the pretty table runner that you are using...it really is perfect with the pattern of the china! Thank you for sharing your new treasure finds with us...so sweet, my friend!
Love ya,
Chari
Welcome Home! It looks perfect.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous table. How nice to be a world traveler and pick up such treasures.
Maryrose
Hi Christine!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorites of all the tablescapes I've seen you do. It is simple and elegant. I love the floral border on the plates.
I hope you had a nice trip. I think you did really well here for just coming home from a trip. The dishes are lovely, sorry about the broken pieces. Sue
ReplyDeleteGreat table, great dishes, beautiful chargers, amazing flatware... Impressive tablescape. And you did this 'on the fly'?? All I can say is "WOW"!!
ReplyDeleteHi Christine! I've been gone most of the day and was so surprised to see you had put together a tablescape! Especially since you just got home? I'll bet you're so tired! Well, your table is beautiful. I love those gorgeous dishes and sorry about the lid on that tureen/veggie bowl. It's still just so lovely! You're amazing, Dear One! Now you go to bed and get some rest...we want to hear all about your London trip!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
You have found bargains all over the world, Christine! This table looks so romantic and inviting.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty tablescape! Looks so lovely with the candles too. :)
ReplyDeleteChristine it is simply lovely! So romantic. I love your dishes, so sorry some were broken! So sad. I know your so disappointed. But your table is lovely!!! I loved visiting with the on the phone. I still recovering, Doc says another two months of the bad stuff. lol Well better go typing and sitting at the computer not too fun yet. lol Just love your table.
ReplyDeleteChristine, your china is gorgeous! Where are you putting all of this china? Did you run over to Marty's to get your centerpiece, or did she come get yours? That is so funny that you both did apples under the same cloche! This is a beautiful tablescape (even without any glasses!) Glad you are safely home. laurie
ReplyDeleteChristine, this table is wonderful. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome home!
Hi Christine! Thanks for coming by to check on me. Danielle is a sweetie! As much as I couldn't imagine having another baby at my age, she has been a blessing. I hope you had a wonderful time in London! I think your new dishes are gorgeous! The chargers are pretty too. Also love that game table. It looks perfect for that space. I hope things work out for your insurance claim. I always hate dealing with those. UGH! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Love the soft pinks! I know how you feel about getting broken things! I had a teapot from ebay with the handle broken in 4 pieces. So sad about your broken top espeically. Anyways, love your tablescape!

This has got to be one of my favorite tablescapes and that would be odd since you put it together quickly!!
ReplyDeleteThe dishes are SO VERY PRETTY! How I envy you. I am such a fan of tiny flowers on china, and I am glad that you were able to get them. You must be sick over the vegetable cover. But the beauty of the set must make up for that. I am also intrigued by the mahogany silverware. How beautiful!! I never heard of such a thing...but well, I am naive!!
Other things I love...the salt cellars, the cloche with the apples, the flower arrangement and the beautiful table
cover that matches the china so perfectly!!
What a stunning job you did, Christine!!
xoxo
Janie
