I would like to join Susan for Outdoor Wednesday. Go see more great outdoor posts by visiting her at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/
Before Christmas one evening, I looked out the back window and saw fire. I showed John and he called the fire dept.
Here is a close up of the fire. The location is actually on the other side of the creek so it is not that close to us but because of the leaves being too dry at this time of the year, we were concerned.
The fire dept. truck came. It's the vehicle with lights on the left side of the fire. And then it left so we guessed that it was a controlled fire.
The following day, John drove there after work to see what was going on and finds out that someone bought 6 acres of the property and is clearing out enough of the trees to be able to build a house. When John got home, he told me he could see our house from there. So, I asked him to take me there for I wanted to see how the house looked from the other side and I wanted to see the creek.
This is where the fire and smoke was coming from.
And there's our house. Recognize it? It would show more now after the leaves all have fallen but we haven't been back there since. It is a private property so we can only go when the guy, our future neighbor, is there. Can you see the creek at the bottom? It's pretty dry in this picture.

another one
See how deep the creek is? I was excited since this was really the first time I saw our house far from behind.
and then we went home.
But first, let me show you our red Japanese maple, before it lost all its leaves. Isn't the color pretty?
One last thing I want to share is our rosemarie and camelia flowers. We had a dinner party on 1/2, so I picked some rosemarie to mix with my baked potatoes. While cutting up some rosemary, I noticed the pink and red camelias were both blooming. So, I cut some to put in a vase. Sorry, I forgot to take a camera and it was too cold for me to go out again, so I just took the pictures of the herb and flowers after I took them to the kitchen. I think they are pretty and it is so nice to see some flowers blooming in cold winter months.
Thanks all for the visit!
I would have been terrified to look out and see that blaze. Glad that it was a controlled burn, but you can't be too careful. And how amazing that you found flowers blooming. This has been a much colder than normal winter for everyone, what a nice surprise. Kathy
ReplyDeleteLove the camelias. I enjoy Colorado's seasons, but to be able to enjoy blooming flowers in January would be great, also. Your home is lovely at any angle. Sally
ReplyDeleteChristine, that fire would have terrified me, too! I'm glad it was a controlled fire, but what were they thinking burning brush in such dry weather? Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYour house and garden are so pretty, and your camelias make a lovely bouquet.
Happy Outdoor Wed!
XO,
Sheila :-)
I hope they build a great house that you don't mind seeing. Their view is pretty good. The red maple is so bright and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThose are great pictures. So glad the fire was controlled. The tree colors are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were not in danger, but it is a bit sad to think that you will no longer have those trees to block the view. Beautiful setting for your home. Thanks for sharing. . . Sarah
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I am so glad that it was a controlled fire. Someone will have a nice location to build a new home. You have a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteJoyce M
The fire made for a very nice and tense blog for today. Your pictures turned out so well. You live in a lovely area and thankful the fire was controlled and you were safe.
ReplyDeletea hint of smoke and i'm packing!:p
ReplyDeleteliving in a crowded city like Metro Manila, a fire is always scary. good thing there's a creek that separates your house from the source of fire.
Oh thank God it was controlled.
ReplyDeleteYou got a nice surroundings.
Happy outdoor!
Regards.
Always,
Regina
Love the maple tree!!! But that fire looks really scary!
ReplyDeleteCome on over to see C shells!! For WEDNESDAY
Seeing a fire would be scary. Some people are just so careless so it is better to be safe than sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd your flowers...how blessed to have them in bloom at this time of year.
Living it up at Lakewood,
Cindy
Hi Christine,
ReplyDeleteGlad the fire didn't turn into into a crisis, will you lose your great views when the new house is built?
Camellias are beautiful flowers, how lovely to have them at this time of year.
BTW Love the new header.
Maggie
I'll bet that fire had you and John scared silly. Thank goodness the fire department responded quickly; that's a comfort.
ReplyDeleteYour red maple tree is gorgeous, and I love the pretty blooms.
Glad the fire was containted. The Maple was beautiful as are those camelias. I love camelias, they remind me of my grandmother. She loved them and had the most beautiful camelia trees in her yard! Happy OW. I am up, come see me if you can.
ReplyDeleteI love the collage, it's very nicely divided. Your pictures are gorgeous. Such beautiul captures.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely property. I can imagine how upsetting it must have been to see fire so close to you. I'm glad it all ended well.
ReplyDeleteThat is scary Christine with all of the dry brush and leaves able to burn. That's so nice you are getting a new neighbor!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet visit!
I had just read a blog post that made me feel really bad about our home and my choices for decor' style. You really made me feel better my friend.
Have a wonderfully blessed week.
~Melissa :)
You live in such a pretty wooded area (but I would have been afraid of the fire too with the dry conditions). So you will have neighbors. Will that be the closest home to you? I wonder what it would be like to not have neighbors so close. I can HEAR mine in their house! lol!!
ReplyDeleteLove your Japanese maple and the camelias are gorgeous. You know we don't have them here...
We are supposed to have 10 inches more of the white stuff tonight. At least I am home where I can WALK to a store if I wanted!! I felt very isolated at the lake as even in town, there is only a grocery store and a few other businesses. Everything else is about 15 miles away...Stay warm!!!
Happy Outdoor Wednesday!! :-)
xoxo

You're so kind Christine! No mean comments or anything like that were left to me.
ReplyDeleteI had just read a bloggers post about outdated decorating trends of the 2000's and it made me feel like our three year old home was already outdated.
Sigh... I was just being too sensitive after I read it. I'm over it now.
To keep up with every single trend we would all have to move or remodel our homes at least once a year and that is just beyond impossible.
My hubby just laughed at it. He!
