Mahogany Tea table

Tuesday means it's time for us to show our table tops and have some tea. Tabletop Tuesday is hosted by Marty at http://astrollthrulife.blogspot.com/
Teatime Tuesday is hosted by Lady Katherine at http://ladykatherineteaparlor.blogspot.com/
Tuesday Tea for Two is hosted by WandaLee at http://theplumedpen.blogspot.com/
Let's all visit them and enjoy lots of pretty table top and tea creations.
Today, I am taking you back to our formal living room. I have been looking for a small table to go in between the 2 chairs for some time. I finally found one when my friend Nit and I went antiquing downtown last week. I found this mahogany round table with 2 layers. I am not really sure what you call it this type of furniture. Let me know if you do please!
I like the beading along the edges and the carving in the center column and I fell in love with the legs. I did not want to put anything real bulky here because I want the table that is against the wall to show. But surprisingly, this little table looks light but it is very heavy.
I thought it would be perfect to serve tea in it. Place the tea and servers on top and then put the cups and sacuers underneath. Well, I am not really serving any tea right now so I just placed some knick knacks there. But, I am displaying one of my silver plated tea sets. I can always use an additional storage, lol.

Isn't the table just perfect for in between those 2 chairs?
Love the shape and the beading on the edges.

I decided to accessorize the bottom layer with my 2 pairs of piano babies, 2 fairy lamps and a green glass basket and small vase. I found these latter 2 from a garage sale in Florida when we still lived there. It's been at least 15 to 20 years so they are old. I got the piano babies from Ebay about 2 years ago. The fairy lamps are from an antique shop downtown a while back but they are not antiques. I don't think the table is either but I do not know how old it is.
I love that carving.
Don't these bisque babies just have the sweetest face?

That's all folks!! I remember the cartoons that I watched when I was small. They always ended with those words, lol.
Thanks to our gracious hostesses, Marty, Katherine and WandaLee for another week of fun. And thank you all for your visits and comments. They are ALWAYS appreciated!

  1. Very Pretty! Sorry - I don't know the name for the table, but I do remember seeing them in homes when I was growing up "many years" ago.:D
    Have a great week.

  4. Oh Christine the table is stunning. I'm not sure, but that shape of table use to be called a pie crust table. Yours would be a double pie crust. They were always round with scallops and beading. Your silver service is fabulous too. Love the little piano babies and the pretty accessories on the bottom shelf. Beautiful table and so elegantly displayed. Hugs, Marty

  5. What a lovely table and in such perfect condition. It reminds of something my grandmother had, so if it isn't antique...it is probably very close to being one. It fits very nicely between your chairs and is perfect for the tea service.

  6. Christine love your silver service display!! I am so glad to see all your woodwork too! I keep thinking I need to paint my woodwork as all you see is painted these days but I think with my home being older I will keep it natural like you did.

  9. Yes, Christine, that table is PERFECT between the 2 chairs! I don't know what it's called, but I've always found that 2 tier table attractive when I see it at an antiques store. I wish I had room for one in my home! It's also perfect for serving your tea!

  18. Your formal living room is beautiful! The table is right at home in between the chairs! My sister has the two tier table. I bought one that had three tiers at an antique shop, and decided to give it to my sister. It was here only a few months. Susan at Between Naps On The Porch has a table similar to this in her bedroom, she know the name of it. For a few months ago I bought a round table and we emailed about names of tables. lol Your tea service is so lovely! It looks so wonderful on your new table! I adore the babies! Thank you for your sweet comment, I know you too have been asking what the Doctors have said. I decided to share my heart this week. I almost deleted most of it. lol I just don't like to share all the bad things. I have fun just pretending, I not going through all this again. lol But it's done. I hope I didn't make you are anyone depressed. I am hanging in here! The warmer days are helping with all my muscles! I am so praying they hold off on some of the things so I can come to Natchez. I will go to the Doc on June 1, I will try and talk him out of doing anything major then. lol I got to go many more times to him and the specialist and the physical Therapy before, I come to see you. They will not let me travel now. But, I hope to be better by then, if not I will just come anyway! lol Just as I did for the luncheon here, no one knew how bad things were then. lol I am a good faker, when people are around. lol Well, except at Hazel's Tea, how embarrassing! I got stuck with my arm on the chair, it wouldn't move, then they took pictures and I knelt on the floor as I was asked to do for a photo. Terry had to come get me up again! lol He told me not to go, but I did want to, so I did! So know I will be there for the luncheon, only if they don't do surgery. But then they do not want me in surgery for a few months and really want to wait to late summer or fall if we can. So the count down on my blog says 42 days to go I think. So I know I will be seeing you in Natchez! Thank you for joining me again for Tea Time Tuesday!

  26. Hi Christine:

he type of table that you have has been referred to as a dumb waiter, as it was used for serving.

    Lovely collections.
