If you follow my blog, you must have known about my former classmate from college whose 28 year old son, Patrick, passed away so suddenly while asleep in bed on July 15th, 2010. It was very, very hard for the family to accept and they are still trying to cope. Patrick left behind a 3 year old daughter and a wife who was 8 months pregnant.
On Aug. 19th, his wife gave birth to a baby girl. I hear she has her daddy's eyes. It is sad to think that the baby will never get to meet her dad although I believe that her dad will always be watching over her. This is truly a miracle because the precious baby girl is giving a lot of joy and hope to the whole family. I know through her, they can begin to cope with the loss and start healing. It's a new beginning!

You might have heard that I opened a shop downtown where the antique shops are. It is now my favorite project.
This is how it looked like before I rented it.
Since most of the items I sell are used, I am also linking with Debbie for Garage Salen at http://debbie-debbiedoos.blogspot.com/
I had it painted yellow called Bee's Wax from Sherwin Williams.
I started stocking up the shelves on Tuesday and by the next day, Wednesday, I already recovered my rent money. Needless to say, I am very excited! Thanks to all the good wishes you sent my way.
The very first one to go was the kid's table and chairs. You can see on the next picture of the mosaic that it has been replaced with the kid's toy chest. I think this chest would have been gone also if I had brought it to the store sooner but I was only able to take it there this afternoon. These furniture used to be in our grandkids' room but they have overgrown them.
The big Asian jar has been sold too by an antique dealer who has a store in the next building across the street. He is picking it up this Saturday.
See the first set of china that I brought to the store to sell? The rest of the set are still at home but I took a picture of my tablescape and posted it there. I did a tablescape before taking them to the store so I can use them first, lol.
Janie, do you like the spot where I hang my cross? It's on the left wall as you go in.
There is still a lot of work to do, mostly looking around the house for more items to sell and pricing them.
The curtain used to be a tablecloth. I went to Walmart to look for a fabric but I did not see anything I like so I looked around the house for a possible one and found this tablecloth that I transformed into a curtain. The tablecloth was too long so I cut the bottom and made it into a table runner.
For Sightseeing Saturday, I will just take you a neat shopping place, that we happened to stumble upon last weekend, in Baton Rouge.
It is called Perkins Rowe. I think I will be frequenting this plaza a lot more from now on because the shops are really neat. They have one of my favorite stores, the Z Gallerie. They also have Sur La Table.
I love all the street lamps and palm trees.
I hope you enjoyed the mini tour. Thank you very much for coming and to our hostesses, thanks for faithfully hosting these fun parties every single week.
What a blessing that baby girl is. She will heal a lot of hearts.
ReplyDeletePerkins Rowe is a neat place to shop!

Sometimes that swing from sorrow to joy can be so hard on your heart. I'm glad your friend has happy news in her life now. Neat post. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI think you are right, that Patrick's baby girl is a miracle for the family. It is like another part of him is on earth again. It's up lifing in a time of sadness.
ReplyDeleteYour shop looks wonderful. I hope I get to see it in person someday ;-D
And I see the cross, I'm so glad you like it...please don't sell your Polish Pottery!!! You may have to start shopping more so that you can keep your shop full, it sounds like things are being sold left and right! That's great. Great idea to have a picture of the tablescape along with the china, too. You are a savvy shop owner!! Best of luck.
I wish we had had the time to drive through downtown Baton Rouge. Al actually wanted to spend one night there on the way back from your place but we didn't allow enough time for much of anything. It really is a beautiful city. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
Have a fun weekend, Christine!
xoxo

Well I just felt chills all over reading about the new baby. It is bittersweet but the sweet will keep them going. A baby changes everything.
ReplyDeleteKeeping them in my prayers. Your shop looks awesome and that shopping area looks like a great place to visit in Baton Rouge.
I have started a new blog that isn't up yet but I used the new templates because we actually have no choice. I was thinking of changing my current blog but am so worried about doing it.
I could not get a header to work on it, is there a certain trick to it? Your blog looks awesome.
You've got so much in this post, I don't know where to begin. First of all, the story of your classmate's untimely death is so touching.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm so excited that you're opening your very own shop! It will be so fun to see what you have in your shop. Please take lots of pictures!!!

Happy Pink Saturday, Christine. Thank you for making Pink Saturday special, and for taking part in this day of celebration and thanks.
ReplyDeleteThere truly are miracles going on all around us every day. We just have to open our hearts in acceptance. Maybe that sweet little one met her daddy in heaven before she was born.
Thats a tear jerker! The little pink footprints are precious, I know this baby will bring joy.
