Bird's Nest

I prepared this table when my stepdaugher and her three kids arrived last Wednesday. I made chocolate coconut bird nest by melting chocolate morsels and then folding coconut in it. I bought the candy eggs from Walmart. I thought they turned out cute.

I am linking with Susan of http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

for Tablescape Thursday. I hope you get to visit her so you will see lots of awesome table settings. Mine is really simple for today.

I only used paper napkins because the kids are really young and I did not want my pink or white cloth napkins smeared with chocolate.

I baked some bunny cookies and placed them on a pink Bordallo Pinheiro bunny tray.

I also baked some brownies and cooked seafood paella.

Since my table theme today is bird's nest, I would like to show you the bird's nest and eggs on our back porch.

The mommy bird is pretty small, I thought it was one of the babies at first. Can anybody tell me what type of bird she is? Is it a sparrow? My poor hanging plant. It is getting dry because I am afraid to water it, afraid the babies might get cold.

Here are the eggs that I showed you last week.

They have hatched and look pretty scary, I think, lol! The nest is deep and it is very hard to take a better picture. I don't really want to harm the baby birds so I was being very careful.

Well, that's all I am sharing with you today. Hope you enjoyed my short post. Thanks for stopping by and thanks to Susan for hosting.

  1. Your nests look so cute. Did you bake them in a muffin pan? Darling. Your table looks beautiful as always and the food is the star of the show!

I think the bird looks like a sparrow, but it is hard to see it well. Remember when I was visiting you and a little bird flew in the house and I caught it? We should have gotten a picture of that!!! lol!

    Happy Wednesday, Christine!

  17. This bird is a wren. I had one build a nest like this in my hanging pot last year. Their nests are watertight, so go ahead and water on the side behind the nest-slowly. It did not seem to bother my birds at all when I did this. If you leave the nest they will probably refurbish it and use it next year. Your table and candy nests are lovely.

  27. How wonderfully creative of you to make nests out of chocolate & coconut! They look & sound very yummy.
I love your little bunny napkin holders. I am making a note to be on the lookout for some of those.

How nice of you to leave momma bird & her babies alone. I hear its considered good luck if a bird builds a nest on or near your house. :D Let's hope so!

  28. Hi, Christine!!! Perfect table! I'm sure everyone loved it! That must have been a lot of work to put together those chocolate bird nests. You have incredible patience, my dear! LOVE your flatware! The design is really unusual. It's almost lacy in a way, but on the other hand reminds me of the design in stained glass windows at church. Very pretty. That cake stand is gorgeous, too!!! My sister would go wild over that seafood paella. She loves it! She & my niece traveled to Spain a few years ago, and they have loved it ever since. I may have told you that before already. Great table! Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend!!!

  30. Your chocolate nest is marvelous. I know that it was a hit with the children at the table. I think tha tthe paper napkins must have been a wise choice. I know that my grandsons are always so impressed with I put a 'real' glass at their places etting instead of a plastic one. Wonderful tablescape. Thank you for sharing your charming design and amazing food items.. Cherry Kay

  31. Hello, Christine! What lovely dishes and oh, all of that food looks soooo good! I love your little bird nest. It looks like a sparrow to me. You may want to try to water the plant just a little. The plant is helping to keep them protected. I haven't been around much lately but had to stop by to see what you have been up to.
