An Outdoor and Pool Party

I have a winner! Congrats to Cindy of http://applestonecottage.blogspot.com/ for winning my giveaway! Cindy, I'll pack up the items and take the box to the post office tomorrow. I hope you like them!

After I redid the secret garden, John invited some of his colleagues for an oudoor barbecue party last Saturday. After having a week of warm weather of temps almost in the 90's, I was surprised to wake up to a 67 degree weather. But John turned on the pool heater so guests were still able to swim.

Although this is just a buffet set up, I am linking to Susan's Tablescape Thursday at

and Michael's Foodie Friday at

I was going to use cloth napkins but after realizing how messy barbecued ribs are, I decided on paper napkins instead. I also used plastic plates. I found these cool colors at Walmart, 4 plates for a $1.

dessert plates

Rolls and pecan pie for dessert.

After eating, we walked to take a look at the creek behind us. The picture below was taken before the Mississippi River has swollen. As you can see, the creek was almost dry. This is how it usually looks.
This is the same creek now, with lots of water.

We are safe from flooding because we are on a bluff but our biggest concern now is the migration of snakes and other wild animals. They have been displaced out of their natural habitats and are searching for safe higher grounds. Today I spread moth balls all over the yard, especially in the secret garden since we had a picnic there today and I am terrified of snakes. I will post pictures of that event next Thursday.

Thanks for stopping by. It is highly appreciated! And thank you to our hostesses Susan and Michael! I hope you get a chance to visit them and their participants.

  7. What a specatcular backyard you have for entertaining, Christine! I love seeing that gorgeous blue water in the background. We really miss our FL pool. *sigh*

All your colorful dishes look wonderful together & the little centerpiece of the greenhouse is darling!

I had to laugh at the beer bottle & cell phone on the table...had to be a guy who left his junk there. MEN!! LOL

Thanks for sharing your beautiful world. I am so glad you are safe from the waters. Yes, do put down those moth balls. We did the same thing in FL to keep the snakes away. Yuck!

    Hugs & stay safe,

  8. Now I am hungry after looking at your fabulous outdoor buffet. Such pretty colors and I loved seeing the creek. We once lived on the lake and we had snakes all the time, while I miss the calmness of the water I do not miss all the snakes that paid us a visit.

  14. Christine, your tables are always wonderful and the food you prepare is fabulous.

We always have lots of mosquitos after floods, even after a year or two. They've already started this year. Seems early for us. Youngest grandson had a big old welt on his back the other day. He really gets bad reactions to them. They tend to leave me alone.ha...wonder what that says about me!:-)

  15. Yah!!! I am so excited Christine, I love the goodies I won!
Your food looks amazing and so does your pool and decor!
I saw a story on the news about the snakes migrating from the flood. OMG, I was freaked by the pics, there were so many.
Whenever we have a cool spring weather day and my mom calls I tell her why did you move me to Wisconsin? Why didn't you move me down south?
And she always says, too many snakes down there.
hehe. My Mom is terrified of snakes.
Anyhoo, I look forward to my mail!
    Hugs friend,
    Cindy

  18. Christine! Your buffett looks delicious. I have been hoping to see some more pool pictures here in blogland. I wish someone would host a pool linky party. I have a good reason for wanting to see different styles and layouts. ;) Anyway, I noticed how you put the serving trays on top of placemats. That is one extra step I had'nt thought of that I really like. I also wanted to say I think the creek looks stunningly beautiful with all the vegetation grown in and more water. I do hope you stay safe and keep the wildlife at bay.

  34. Hey! I am catching-up on your blog. LOVELY party. You entertain with such flair and style! Everything looks so pretty and yummy! I have read some articles about the displaced critters. I read one article that said snakes like hiding on bookshelves of all places. It gives me the creeps thinking about it!
