I am so lucky that my hubby feeds on my vice or it would be so boring otherwise. It's probably not new to you that I have an extreme obsession of dishes (among many other things, lol). It's not an exaggeration to say that I want to own all available patterns out there.
Anyway, right after we brought AJ to New Orleans airport for her flight back to FL, John takes me to a flea market where we bought a few furniture that I can refinish to sell at my booth. Then, he took me to a shopping plaza where they had a Kirkland's, TJ Maxx and Marshall's right next to each other. I tell you, I was in shopping heaven! So, we were walking along the dish aisle (where I always go towards, at first) and John spots these Italian Deruta dishes and points them out to me. I told him I already own a few pieces but my plates are in trapezoid shape. He said that's the more reason I should buy the round ones too to add to my collection. Now, I don't know about you but who can resist that generous suggestion?
And that's exactly what I did. I already owned the pitcher and the oval tray too.I know I had a cake platter somewhere in the house but could not find it anywhere.
Needless to say, these Italian dishes inspired me to create this tablescape. I started with a table runner with yellow embroidered lemons. I found it on Williams Sonoma's clearance table a few months ago.
I do not have a yellow tablecloth big enough to fit this table (Note to myself: be on a lookout for one) so I opted for the runner. Besides, I have not used it yet so this is a chance for an initiation.
I thought I had 4 sets of trapezoid shaped plates but I only have 2 sets, which I bought when we went to Chicago. I would have bought more round plates if I only have known, but there is always a next time.
And that makes sense cause they are heavy and John had to hand carry them in addition to the Queen's turkey plates I also bought from downtown Chicago. I was trying to be considerate, lol.
I thought I could use my Italian chef S & P shaker. The top half comes off and is the salt shaker and the bottom half holds the pepper.
After 2 days of wracking my brain, I decided to search through the plastic bins in my garage dish room and finally found my cake pedestal in the same pattern at a very bottom bin. Yay!
Isn't she pretty? I am glad I found her again.
For a centerpiece, I used an Italian vase with lemons and a pottery and I just popped in some faux plants and flowers in them. I could have cut some fresh flowers from outside but I got lazy and ran out of time. I was rushing to get this done to post because I have a big pool party this Thursday that I have to prepare for. Lots of things to do in the garden and Debjani, my friend, wants me to go with her tomorrow to Jackson airport, to pick up her mom who is visiting from Houston. Then, next week, I am going back to FL for my 3 grandbabies' Christening. Ahhh! Another busy month!
Since I only have 2 sets of the trapezoidal plates, I placed them in the center across each other. I really like the unusual shape.
The centerpiece.
Various but similar designs on the plates.
The yellow charger is a ceramic with I think 5 roosters around it.
a close up of the table runner
Chris Madden's amber champagne flutes and goblets that I have had for a long time. I thought the colors blend in well.
I don't know why but cherubs always remind me of something Italian so I picked to use these napkin rings.
The flatware were given to me by my son and DIL one Christmas.
Do you see the little amber salt cellar? They were 8 thrown in for free in an auction with other things that we won. I only kept 2 and sold the rest at my booth.
Since we are in the formal dining room, I thought I'd show you our pair of Limoges cherub plates hanging on the wall on either side of the wall mirror. We won them in an auction in Jackson, MS about 2 years ago. I spotted them hanging on a wall and they weren't even being auctioned but I asked the auctioneer assistant if they could possibly include them and they did. I think I only got them for $47 for the pair and I really love them! And they look Italian, don't they?
Thank you so much for your visits again, They are always appreciated! I also want to especially thank our gracious hostesses!

ReplyDeleteHi Christine,
ReplyDeleteI think this is one of my favorite tables that you have done. I love how you accented the yellow and the shapes and textures are so appealing. Beautiful!
So pretty! I love the centerpieces too.
ReplyDeleteI love the dishes Christine, they're lovely. I have a sft spot for Italian everything and this dishes are no exception for my taste! I like that you found the cake stand too, great! Love the runner, it brought the dishes together for your gorgeous tablescape and the chrubs...so Italian! I have a huge yellow moire tablecloth for my big size table like yours, because I had it made, recycled from my draperies. Hope you visit me, I have a new post from a day ago.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
FABBY
Absolutely Italian, indeed...
ReplyDeleteAnd I love (again) every piece and adore your treasures.
Have a happy-week.
Hugs from a rainy and freezing Stockholm,
/Chie
Christine, I like the mix of shapes on your table. Makes it interesting. Glad you found some more in this lovely pattern. And how nice that John encourages this obsession. LOL I don't have that kind of support for my dish obsession. ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteChristine, your table scape is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Christine! It could be a table right in the heart of Tuscany! You made a good choice with the table runner...lemons remind me of Italy the way cherubs do for you! The dishes are so pretty and so is the beautiful cake plate! I really do love this tablescape.
ReplyDeleteYou DO have a busy month! I hope you had fun with AJ! I have to go back and see if you posted about it. I have been busy, too, and missed out on blogging a bit. Hope you and John had a wonderful Easter!
XO,
Jane
I think I either need to shop with your John, or maybe (and this is even better) John can hold "Support Your Dish Loving Wife" classes for all of our husbands.
ReplyDeleteGrin.
I love this table, Christine. The pattern of those dishes is so very much my taste. What you did for the centerpiece was just perfect, too.
I've been away from the computer for over a week. I'm trying my best to get caught up. Glad I didn't miss this.
These dishes just take my breath away!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful dishes and I love that pretty table runner!
ReplyDeleteThank You for sharing and I hope you have a fabulous rest of the week...
Aledia
Hi Christine!
ReplyDeleteYou ALWAYS have a beautiful table to share... but this week is really special. The table runner is just perfect.... I'm not missing a table cloth at all! I like how you can see the wood table top. In fact the wide shot of the table is just gorgeous... love the wallpaper and classic decor.
ALSO... you have a real catch when it comes to your DH. To think that he not only goes into the store with you , but then he finds something to buy that is so pretty!
Thanks for sharing at my party this week!

Just Beautiful!!! I have several pieces of Italian pottery sent or brought over from relatives, you have inspired me to get it out and use it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous, gorgeous table! Everything looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteChristine, your dining room is stunning and you always create the most beautiful tablescapes. You do have such beautiful dishes and this pattern is stunning. I love the two vases as a centerpiece, beautiful. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThis is some of your best work, Christine! You did a really good job of choosing the centerpiece vases and candlesticks that complemented the rest of the table. I really love the trapezoid-shaped dishes!!! I have seen them here in Kansas City, but I have a set that is so similar (in pattern only, not shape) that I shied away. You will be able to enjoy those for years and years! That's a pattern that will never look dated! That's funny that you were being "considerate" toward John in not buying more for him to have to hand carry!!! Sounds like you have a super busy schedule ahead. Make sure you find some time for yourself in there, too! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love your dishes and how everything goes together. Lovely centerpiece! Your dining room is beautiful too!
ReplyDeleteBlessings My Friend,
This table is beautiful. I love yellow and the runner looks perfect with them. Your husband is so sweet. Have a wonderful time in Florida blessing those grandbabies!
ReplyDeleteChristine, this is absolutely gorgeous! I have always loved this pattern; and I think this is one of my favorite tablescapes of yours! I love the Italian feel; and you did it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteDeruta pottery is always so very special! The colors of the Amalfi Coast sing from each beautiful piece...I love every moment! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteChristine.. this is certainly one of my favorites! Lucky you to have a husband who feeds the dish obsession. I love these dishes! They look fabulous in your dining room. The candlesticks and the olive pot are sooo pretty. xo marlis

Hi Christine! It's been a long time but your table scape is as beautiful as ever!
ReplyDeleteYou put together such a pretty Italian tablescape!! I love your runner...it looks perfect! I don't think I'd even look for a tablecloth, because you see the wood of your table which looks so pretty. I love your salt cellar and that cute S & P shaker!! How nice that your hubby encourages your dish buying...he's a keeper!!
ReplyDeleteYour table is FABULOUS but it always is, you have the most wonderful husband to offer to buy you all those dishes
ReplyDeleteIt all is so wonderful I love it girl
I seen those dishes in TJ Maxx and thought what a pretty table they would make
This a a gorgeous table - I just love the colors! The runner is just perfect with everything and you certainly created a impressive tablescape!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is one beautiful table, Christine! I have a few pieces of Deruta serving pieces, but no plates.
ReplyDeleteOh my! It is gorgeous! That John is amazing! Mine would have been rolling around having fits! Deruta is pricey if I recall!
ReplyDeleteKohls just had a good sale on cloths on line. I bought yellow for the dining room.
Also check Linensnthings.com. I ordered from them too. Plain, but your dishes are patterned so it would work.
Thanks for linking your new treasures to Let's Dish ! Does John have a brother?:)
Christine, This so beautiful. We had an opportunity to visit a pottery factory in Italy. It was so fun to watch the hand paint the beautiful designs. I was just picturing them paint the lovely designs on all your pieces. The plates are so colorful and you can use most anything with them but you have chosen the best. Love the stemware also and especially the cherubs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Have fun with the family.
xoxoGinger
Your dining room is so elegant! I love your dishes and the yellow makes them perfect for spring time. I like seeing the wood of the table showing with just a runner. That shopping center sounds like one here in FL with the same combination of stores..always means trouble for me!

Your table runner is beautiful. What a great USEFUL design! I'm sure you will use it all the time! I actually LOVE the table set the way you have it with only the runner AND showing off the wood of the table. An amazing contrast with the wood and yellows!
