It's Too Hot But Some Flowers Are Still Thriving

It has been too hot here so I haven't been working in the garden.  I am surprised, there are still some flowers that are still thriving, in spite of the extreme heat. I do water on the deck around the pool though and the sprinklers water the yard. we had a leak on one of the sprinkler valves and our outdoor water bill last month was around $450. Inside was $179. Ouch! Do you also get 2 bills every month? We do!

I will name the ones that I know for sure what they are called and leave the others that I am uncertain of, these fuschia flowers, pretty though, huh? I love the fan shape. It just popped up in the pot where I have my lemon tree planted.

Not sure what this is called!
 Honeysuckle
 Black Eyed Susan?
 Bouganville
 White Lantana
I also have the pink with orange and yellow mix in the front yard but I really did not take pictures of the flowers there.
One of my favorites, the sampaguita, which is the national flower of the Philippines. It belongs to the jasmine family and is therefore very fragrant.

Crown of Thorns

Dahlia?

white crape myrtle.
We also have pink ones in the front yard but they are very high. This white one just popped up here and is only 2 ft tall as of now.

 Roses

 Hibiscus
 morning glory
They are so pretty in the morning with their deep blue color.

I thought this was a forsythia bush at first but I don't think so now. I planted it about 2 years ago and it was only a small plant then, less than a foot tall and just one stalk but look at it now! Does anybody know what it is?

  1. Goodness Christine you sure have the greenest thumb!! What interesting plants you have too! Wow that is some high water bills though that's probably why your your garden looks so great!! We just get 1 bill a month.

I don't have any idea what that plant would be. I love it when things like this happen though- you think you bought a certain plant then you get a surprise and hopefully it is a pleasant one!

  2. These flowers are amazing, but like you, I couldn't name half of them, lol. That first photo - never seen one like that before.

We have one - it flowers, and as soon as it's pollinated, it closes up and the flower dies! Sometimes in a matter of hours. So weird. We won't be planting that one again, such a disappointment. None have lasted a day so far.

    Happy Pink Saturday!

  9. Hi Christine, are you in Texas? I just asked because your plants are also mostly tropicals. It's good you can carry there the national flower of your country, although it is not an endemic species. I love that yellow flowered plant near the corner of the pool, do you know what it is?

  10. Oh My Chris, By all those flowers you would never believe it was so hot! You must have a TON of humming birds??? We don't have to pay anything for water here. We have a well that is always plentiful AND we have a lake that I can tap if I needed it... I don't think anyone in Connecticut pays for their water. I DO Know my folks in Florida have to pay for theirs, BUT Dad has a well that he uses for his yard(that's free)...
Your yard and flowers are GORGEOUS. At least you have a reward for the water.
    Have a fun weekend,
    Big Hugs,
    Donna

  27. UM, OMG!!! I would have a heart attack if I got those bills! We get one bill that includes water, sewer & trash. In the summer it tops out at about $75 & that's if we're having to water a lot! We've had a lot of rain so it's been in the $60 range. I didn't know there was white Lantana! I have a confetti one but I really like the white. Your yard is so pretty!

Querida os netinhos estão muito fofo!
    Deus os abençoe poderosamente.
Te desejo uma linda e abençoada semana.
