Florida Guest Room 1 Transformation

We just moved another truck, trailer, van and SUV full of stuff from our MS home. I was pretty sure we would be able to bring everything and I did not even want to rent a trailer. But I was wrong. We still left 2 twin size beds, a formal dining set and a garage and attic full of stuff there.

But whatever we were able to bring is already overwhelming. The garage here is full of boxes wall to wall from floor to ceiling. I am still trying to fit everything I can in this house which is almost half the size of where we moved from. It is a real challenge and it is exhausting.
I am opening 1 box at a time and redoing 1 bedroom at a time. I  just finished one guest room. Below is how it turned out.
Below was before I filled it with furniture, lol.
It was basically just a queen size bed and 2 end tables
Here, you can see all the paintings and pictures that I had to find walls to hang them. You will also see the 2 mirrors that still need to be hung.

This is a small room which I have to fill with furniture cause I have no where else to put them. We already sold a lot and given away a lot but we still have so much left.
We had to move the armoire from our master bedroom to here because we brought the French antique armoire from MS and it is very tall and it would not fit here. Fortunately, we have high ceilings in our bedroom. I placed one of the TV's on top. I moved the trunk from the office/guest bedroom 2 to the front of the bed.
Ok, mirrors are hung and all furniture placed.
I added a painting of roses and a picture of European country scenes on this wall but I thought it wasn't balanced enough.
The dresser is from the 1860's. It used to be in our guest room for the kids in Natchez.
I added an antique Italian panel on top of the dresser and I like how it turned out. Do you? After all, I call this my Italian room.  I think it looks more balanced now.  I have 2 of them and I am glad I found a home for them. One of them went on top of the painting in the living room.

The room is small but I was able to add a lot of furniture and accessories and I am still happy with it.

This plaque, an architectural salvage I found on the web, used to be above the entry to our office in Natchez.

I won the pair of oval mirrors from an estate auction in Natchez when we first moved there in 2007.

And there it is! I hope you like it. Thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate and read all your comments. Thanks to the hostesses of the memes I am linking with below.

  1. Your guest room turned wonderful. Even though it's small you say, but a lot of lovely furniture is here. I love how it is and it's very warm and inviting.
You remind me of when we moved to this pent house, although not small, our previous house was more then twice as big!
We sold and gave the girls some furnishings too.
Have a serene Holy Week and a happy Easter my friend.

  3. Good Morning and Happy Easter week!
I know exactly what you speak of about "fitting," furniture into smaller spaces!
It is challenging, we have smaller secondary bedrooms in our new home- and I feel as though we moved the same piece of furniture a million times.
However, you have transformed your home into a gracious and peaceful haven for your family and your lovely and cherished pieces of furniture add depth and grace.
I also enjoyed your Easter table-form a previous post.
You are always invited and welcomed to join us at Thoughts Of Home On Thursday we would love to have you share your time and talent with us.
    Happy Easter week,
    Jemma

  7. I think the guest bedroom turned out great, Christine! You have such lovely furniture I hate to think of what you had to sell, give away or leave behind. Take it a little at a time so it doesn't become too overwhelming :) Happy Easter to you!

  12. It's great to see your beautiful wood furniture! It's rare to see a blog that shows the use of such gorgeous antique wood furniture - free of beautiful wood that has been ruined by painting it white or black!

  16. Dear Christine:
You and I will go on record as MOVING AT THE SAME TIME and being exhausted. Tonight I am pooped because I planted flowers today in the front and my hubby mowed the grass which was getting very high. He let me know HE WILL be buying a driving mower and wants a John Deer. I yard is much larger here and there is no way he is going to push that mower Christine. I love the way you did the room and I love the way you hung the pictures with different ones stacked above each other. Your style is very classic and looks clean and lovely! You are figuring it all out Christine! Thanks for linking and sharing your beautiful home with us!

  22. Lovely guest room Christine! Moving is such hard work. When we last moved the boxes started out in the garage and came in as I could put them away...it really helped keep the "chaos" better organized.
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
    Blessings,
    Cindy
