Excavation Began in Our Backyard

It's Wednesday and I usually enter a post sooner than this but I have been busy which you will soon find out why, after this blog. Outdoor Wed. is hosted by Susan of http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/. Let's all go check out Susan's outdoor entry and enjoy it with so many other participants' posts. This used to be our backyard. Not anymore.
I used to wake up to this. Not anymore.
4 men came yesterday. First this guy turned off the auto water sprinkler system.
Then the supervisor instructed the 3 men what to do and left.
and they got busy, killing my bushes.
digging and digging

and with all of them working for 5 hours straight, turned our backyard to this.
Now, this is the view from the family room.
Some of the dirt was thrown down the hill way in the back and it will be addressed later. Another phase, maybe a gazebo or a pergola....haven't decided, or maybe just an open deck with a sitting conversation area. Give me a vote! It has a beautiful view and hate to waste it.
Hope you enjoyed seeing the excavation of the yard. I am excited for what will become of it but I almost cried when I saw my bushes destroyed. I was able to save the little plants cause last week, that's all I did, dug them out and replanted them somewhere.
Thanks Susan for another fun outdoor day!

  4. Oh man, I can't wait either Christine! What are you up to girl? I don't live there and I'm getting excited. LOL

I think a great open deck would be a great compromise to preserve the view and have your loung space. I can't imagine even blocking a foot of that amazing view! Maybe you can have the deck higher up with a few steps to broaden the line of sight while you're on the deck?

Good luck; I know whatever you decide it'll be just gorgeous!

  7. Happy Outdoor Wednesday Christine! How exciting! I know you can't wait! Not sure which to vote for.. I love the gazebo idea...but maybe you need to "live with it" (the pool)...and then decide what hardscape you wanted to put in! Thanks for sharing your photos.~ Susan

  9. Hi Christine
What a lovely backyard you have even if it is not finished. I love all the trees you have and you will get your bushes going soon. A pool ~ how nice and you will get to view it from your nice large window.
It will be worth all the work that has gone into your yard.
    ENJOY!!

  11. Oh my, a pool...how lucky you are! You may not think so right now but when you're laying in the pool on a raft sipping a cosmo....just dream about it.....soon it will be reality!

  12. This looks like it is going to be so much fun!! And you are in a beautiful setting for entertaining around the pool!

I think a gazebo sounds in order. Our neighbors at the lake have one and it is screened in. You will need that with all the trees and even the pool water attracting mosquitos. They love theirs and spend quite a bit of time on it having meals and drinks!

Don't work too hard, you need to start shopping for swimsuits!!

    xoxo

  14. I vote for a patio, uncovered. That way your view won't be as disrupted. Can't wait to see the finished project.
