Saturday is my day of commitment. I hope I never run out of sights to show. Saturday is when I take you all sightseeing. I hope you all can join and take us sightseeing too! If you do, I will have Mr. Linky ready below.
Saturday is also Pink Day. At first, I wasn't sure if I could join because I really do not have a lot of pinks around but then I thought of checking my purse cabinet. I should have a pink one since this shopaholic has all colors, LOL! Sure enough, I have some and let me show you my favorite one.
Pink Saturday is hosted by Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/. Please visit her blog to see what pink item she is sharing today and then check out the other participants' pink items too.
Here is the pink leather and satin purse I used for my daughter Tina's wedding a few years ago. I have no idea who Charles David is but he must design cute purses.
See the pink rhinestones?
Hope you enjoyed my pink contribution for this week.
Now, it's time to go sightseeing.
Let's explore Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo, Norway. The 80 acres park features 212 bronze and granite sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland. I will show you a few here. All the sculptures are in the nude.
This is the main entrance. Aren't those gates gorgeous?
LOL! I just had to do this!

Marvelous sculptures!
The Monolith is meant to represent man’s desire to become closer with the spiritual and divine. It portrays a feeling of togetherness as the human figures embrace one another as they are carried toward salvation. It is at the highest point in the park.
I thought this was very interesting.
so serene!
The Fountains: Portraying children and skeletons in the arms of giant trees, the Fountain suggests that from death comes new life.
Maybe you have had enough of naked sculptures, so let's go visit Holmenkollen, which is famous for its enormous ski jump that can be seen from just about everywhere in Oslo. Touring with me on this trip were my sister Tess, my nephew and his family. Here is my big sister but she is really tinier than me.
She sure knows how to pose. I hope she does not break the troll's nose.
Looks like the troll's nose is a favorite handle. LOL!
You can even try this ski simulator and try the ski jump.
Now, these old houses really fascinated me. Notice the grass growing on their roofs? They intentionally let the grass grow there to give the home extra insulation during cold season. You might be curious how they mow the grass. They don't, instead they let their goats go up there to eat the grass when it has overgrown
They baked the bread in the fireplace and it was yummy!
According to Wikipedia, a Stave church is a medieval wooden church with a post and beam construction related to timber framing. The wall frames are filled with vertical planks.
Below is a Stave Church. I believe it is the oldest one in Oslo.
inside the Stave Church My nephew's daughter, Kristin and my sis posing with Norwegian guys.
We also visited an old school house.
Here is the interior.
Of course we can't go to Norway without visiting a Viking Museum. There were 3 burial ships that were amazingly well preserved by the blue clay surrounding them, considering that they date back to the 9th century. They were found buried on farms in the late 1800's to early 1900's. This is one of them.
Ahh - Norway! We were there about 13 years ago! Same naked statues in that park. We went to the ski spot, too. And I loved how it stayed light so late!
ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE that pink purse!! And thanks for taking us on such a wonderful journey thru Norway. You & the sculptures are just too funny!!
