We went to an antique shop in St. Francisville, which is about an hr. drive from us and we were told by the cashier about an event happening the following week, called White Linen. She said many of the stores will be open late and will be serving free food. That was enough to entice us, lol. So Last Saturday, John and I along with a good friend, Dr. Turk, went there.
They had a free trolley and a bus to take people around.
It was really fun going through the antique stores, shopping while tasting their various food.
They had music too.
My favorite shop was this, called Grandma's Buttons.
The old building established in 1915, used to be a bank and it had its original safe inside which had this beautiful door with moulding, columns and lion heads.
I was in love with the wrought iron gate and windows. Aside from having wonderful stuff to see that was for sale, they had free food, champagne and music. It was very crowded.
Even Dr. Turk had a great time. There he is, admiring the antique buttons inside the walk in safe and John was enjoying looking at the handmade jewelry.
I bought 2 necklaces there. I only wanted one but John forced me to buy two, lol. How could I say "No" to such a giving soul? You will see them towards the end of this post.
There were antique, gift and novelty shops everywhere. Grandma's Buttons had so many jewelry made out of antique buttons. They made most of their jewelry upstairs. They were quite lovely and unique.
Are you curious yet as to what we bought? I will show you in the following pictures.
Here are the jewelry that I bought. I fell in love with the orange cameo right away and showed it to John. The cameo was carved out of a shell in Italy but the whole necklace was handmade in California. John picked the other cameo carved on tanslucent glass with small turquoise stones. I like it very much too because of its antique look, which gave us a problem because we could not decide which one to buy. I was going to buy what he picked just to please him and then he said I should get both. I resisted at first feeling guilty because they weren't that cheap but he was persistant. Hmmm, I am only but human so how could I resist? LOL!
I bought the turquoise bracelet from one of the tents outside.
I also bought a silver plated vanity set, just the brush, mirror and comb for $22. I already had the Baroque plateau which needs to be polished (note to myself).
An oriental chest. I think I will use it to store my cloth napkins and put the napkins rings that had overflowed from my napkin ring cabinet, on the top tray. The lacquer chest was $95.00.
I think it was a really good deal at $5.00
This post will serve as my Sightseeing Saturday post.
