I have been busy this week cleaning both inside the house and the yard so I did not do a tablescape. But John and I went to an estate sale in Port Gibson so I would like to share what we bought.
I bought 2 sets of 12 dinner plates of Historic America transferware by Johnson Brothers. They cost us $90/set of 12 ($120 less 25%). Do you think we paid too much? I have not seen them anywhere so I thought they are quite rare.
We also bought the cobalt blue tablecloth for $2. I thought it would be perfect to use with my Polish Pottery.
This pattern is "Massachusetts"
And this one's "Frozen Up". I think this set will be perfect for Thanksgiving.
Sorry, my pic is blurred but look at the details including a turkey. We paid for this set first and then decided to get the other set too.
I don't think the tea warmer is that much of a deal but I like using tea warmers so I bought it. Everything was 25% off so we paid $7.50 for this.
These were $4.50 each. I thought they were perfect to serve individual casseroles in.
I bought a bunch of linens. Not sure what the peach are but I thought the shape is very interesting. I suppose I can use them for napkins.
I like these blue tea towels and napkins.
We paid $15 for this footed silver plated server including the glass insert and it polished beautifully.
I can't remember how much we paid for this but it was reasonable. It polished beautifully too.
The doilies were $2 a pack and there must be 6 to 7 doilies in a pack.
I love the details on the Battenburg lace table toppers. I bought a white and cream one. They were $5 each.

The peach linen piece is made to fit in a bread basket and cover the rolls to keep them a bit warmer. You found some great deals. I really like the plates. Cherry Kay

Christine, you picked up some good bargains for excellent prices. I wonder if the peach linens are for a bread basket to bring up the sides together at the top to keep the bread/buns warm?

ReplyDeleteI wish I knew more about collectibles and antiques so that I could help you with your question about the dishes. I'm just not terribly knowledegable at all in that department. I'm from the school of "If It's Pretty and You Can Afford It, Buy It!!!" :-) The patterns are cool, and you'll be able to use them throughout much of the winter months I would imagine. Thanksgiving, of course, will be the ideal time. You found a lot of other really cool stuff, too!!! That silver...yeah, baby!!! It's good that it was already all polished up for you! Enjoy playing with all your new toys!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI was just on ebay and they had ONE JB Frozen Over plate that they were asking $35 + $10.60 shipping so if you figure 1/2 of that you made a steal. I always look at Replacements Limited and then figure 1/2 of that price and no shipping, If I payed less I feel I did okay. I'm still crying that I didn't purchase a set of red w/ serving pieces for 8 (or 12) I could have had them for $30 but I was trying to be good and not add anymore dishes to feed my addiction. That will not happen again. If I ever find another deal like that I will grab them up and float home with them.

ReplyDeleteYour choices from the auction are gorgeous and will be cherished because you chose them together. Great silver finds -- just use it regularly and touch it up occasionally. I always shed a little tear when I see other people's Thanksgiving plates because we don't EVER have turkey day at our house and I have no Thanksgiving themed items. Both of your Johnson Brothers sets are stunning!

I use them for Thanksgiving and Christmas..I have done my February table using the red ones...you indeed got a real bargain. they can be quite pricey and they are very hard to find unless you get them from Replacements...I am going to be your newest follower...and I hope you will visit my blog. I feature these dishes whenever I can get them in...you got a very good find at a very good price..the plates are around $60 ea at Replacements....sorry to be so long but I am excited to see your new dishes...enjoy them...I know I do..
