Janie and Alan's Visit

I have been very busy cooking for the MS Bloggers get together which will be held tomorrow, so I did not have time to upload new pictures for Sightseeing Sat. Consider this post to be it. Unfortunately 4 people cancelled at the last minute so it looks like with husbands, there will just be 7 of us. But that's ok, we will still have a good time.
Presenting: Janie in Natchez!!!!

Janie of

http://blondiesjournal.blogspot.com/ and Alan drove 3 hrs.( actually 4 hrs. because their Navigator took them through some remote areas) from New Orleans to come see us. This is the second time we met with them. We met once in Chicago a little more than a year ago. John and I were both excited awaiting for their arrival. We planned to take them to lunch at the Carriage house restaurant behind Stanton Hall but they are only open until 2 and Jane and Al arrived shortly after. We ended up eating at Fat Mama's Tamales. Its funny but it was also our first time to eat there. They are advertised as having "knock you naked" margaritas . Al and I had some and they were really good! The food was good too.

John drove us all around downtown but he had a surgery case scheduled at 4 so he had to leave right after. I took Janie and Al to tour Longwood.

Ooops! This picture is out of sequence. The picture below was actually taken outside Fat Mama's Tamales and it is showing Rosalie, a historical antebellum house which was used as a French headquarter during the civil war. Does any of you remember Fort Rosalie?
Actually Fort Rosalie was across from it, I think.

Now. we're back to Longwood. Longwood has a very interesting history. It is the largest antebellum house here but it was never finished. The civil war broke before its completion. It was later on bought by a wealthy guy and donated back to the Garden Club in Natchez with a stipulation that it can never be finished, to preserve its history.

This is one of the niches upstairs. Do you see the unusual angled bricks?

Isn't this a nice picture of Janie and Alan?

After the tour, we went back home to relax a bit and snacked on banana bread.

Time went by so fast and came dinner time. We had a reservation at the Castle at 7 PM so off we went. The Castle is located behind Dunleith and it used to be its carriage house. If you are ever in Natchez, I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent. We weren't even hungry after eating a late lunch and snacking but we finished everything and even had dessert because the food was so good!

This is what Janie and I had, soft shell crab topped with artichoke and big lumps of crab. Uhmmmm, yum!
The bottom floor where the horses used to be kept, is now a bar.

After dinner, we just chilled out and just visited by the pool at home but forgot to take pictures. We just got too excited talking.

The next morning, we had German waffles and strawberries for breakfast at home.

Then, we went back downtown to browse through antique stores.

We had lunch at Mammy's Cupboard.

After lunch, it was time to say goodbye. Janie and Alan had to go back to New Orleans but wanted to stop by Baton Rouge and John and I had to go to Jackson Airport to pick up my daughter and her 2 sons.

Thank you so much, Janie and Alan, for driving all the way here to come and see us.

And thank you very much for the wonderful present that you gave us. We both love it very much. Did you know I love potteries?
They are another one of my obsessions.

We really enjoyed having you so much!

Isn't this a pretty jug?

Thank you all for coming by.

Christine, y'all look like you are having a blast! Great photos! I'm so glad the 4 of you had such a great time. I haven't used Blogger to upload photos in a long time, I used to be able to kind of drag them around. You need to try LiveWriter. I've been using it for about 6 months, and I love it! laurie

OMG it looks like you had so much fun. The pictures are so cute.

Here is what I do. On the post I am writing I go into html. I highlight and copy the picture and place it where I want it. Then I just highlight and erase it where it was before. Actually I erase it right after I copy it but you should be sure you know what you are doing before you do that.

What a wonderful post. I saw Longwood many years ago when Bob and I toured the Natchez Trace. It is always so nice to hear of bloggers meeting and enjoying each others company. I'm so glad you all had a good time. Blessings...Mary

How wonderful for all 4 of you to be able to spend some time together. Isn't it amazing how the blogging world brings people together! Looks like you had a great visit.

To move pictures around, I highlight what I want to move, cut and paste, then delete where it was before. It works everytime.

What fun all of you must have had together! It is amazing how we form such friendships through blogging, isn't it?
I switched from Blogger to Live Writer a year ago because it was so easy to navigate. No worrying about misplaced pictures and so many more options to choose from. I'm sure if you check it out, you will like it. Have a great weekend, Christine!
hugs, Sue

Thanks again for being such a wonderful hostess and friend. We had a great time, didn't we? I love the pictures and I wish I had taken more (I didn't have my purse most of the first day, remember?). I have some great pictures of the street we walked down on Saturday, looking in the antique shops.

Thanks again for a great time in Natchez! :-)

xoxo
