Junking in Roxie

Roxie, such a pretty name but don't let that fool you. There is nothing there. But we'll get to that in a little while.

BI got this pretty beaded choker with yellow rhinestones from there.

It's Saturday again so it's time to show our lovely pinks and also time to have fun either sightseeing, shopping or attending any special event.

My pink contribution is this 2 tiered server. I like the pink roses on it and I also like the reticulated and lacy edges. If you want to see some really lovely pinks, go visit Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/

A few weeks ago, John and I went to Roxie, which is about a half hr. away from where we live. Just like I said, there really isn't anything there but there is this one store of which the owner, Cecile, has a booth in the store where my booth is, was having a sale that particular day. Cecile's mom used to operate this store for many long years when she was alive and Cecile inherited everything after his mom passed away.

You really have to be patient and look closely because there are treasures hidden among the junk, which is quite overwheling in such a tight space.

I started gathering what I wanted to buy. Cecile always works with me on the prices so don't mind those labels. That monkey was tagged $10 but I got it for $5. Do you see all the stuff that he is selling? You really have to be patient in looking around.

Here are all the stuff that I bought. All the jewelry boxes, I bought for $2 each. I brought home 4 lamps plus a fairy lamp. I spent $92 for everything. The teal glass candlesticks holders were $3 for the pair.

The ink well needs to be cleaned. Cecile said it came from Korea. I think I can make it pretty after dissolving the rust and polishing it. I plan to sell most of these in my booth.

These 2 lady boxes were $2 each. It looks like they are staying. They are already on my bed side table.

I like this butter churn. I might keep it. It was $7.

Isn't the flower girl sweet? She is a Mallorca and I bought her for $4. The fairy lamp was $3. I think I will keep them too. I was going to sell most of these in the store but it looks like I am keeping more, lol. I will sell the 3 lamps but keep the hobnail milk glass. Cecile forgot to add the needlepoint frame in my invoice so he just gave it to me for free.....such a nice guy!
I like this Victorian courting couple lamp but it's not the right color for our house so I am selling it at the booth.

This Gone with the Wind lamp is perfect except it needs to be rewired and I have just the right guy to do it, Mitch, our electrician. I just need to buy a lamp kit which costs about $6, I think. I bought the lamp for $20.

I love this monkey. He was $5. Doesn't he resemble a Majolica? he is quite tall too. It has a signature underneath but I couldn't make anything out of it. I am keeping this guy too.

For my Son Jed, the Hunter

We are approaching hunting season here. It starts on October 1st. But my son Jed, has already been hunting in Florida on private property so I thought I would dedicate this tablescape especially to him, and to all the hunters out there.

Here is Jed. He is a typical guy, he likes to hunt and fish.

See my antler? The owner of the hunting store where we bought Jed's birthday present gave it to me.

I added some faux persimmons and an orb with ferns and moss in the bowl with antlers.

I am really getting a lot of use of this maple tree.

I used my salad plates with a rabbit, deer and a platter with a wild boar. I also have a salad plate with a wild boar but I only set a table for 2.

I cannot believe that I do not have any plain brown dinner plates, out of over 70 sets of dishes that we own. So, I used my brown Staffordshire Royal Mail transferware for dinner plates. I used 2 types of plate chargers, layered, a taupe ceramic and a cross section of a wood trunk.

I thought the bone flatware would blend well with everything else.

I wanted to use my monkey napkin rings but I could not remember where I kept them, so I used the lions instead.

I also used a horn carving knife and fork.

I bought the wood chargers from Z Gallerie a year or 2 ago. I only have 2 because the others that they had were all cracked so I did not buy more, but I really like what I got.

Rearranging Dishes in Kitchen China Cabinet

I have more time to spend inside the house now since we have installed a sprinkler system in the yard and I don't water the garden as much. I only water the plants on the porch and around the pool now.

I decided to rearrange the dishes in the kitchen china cabinet.

Here is the "Before".

Here is the left row of the cabinet. You will see an enlarged view of each shelf below from the top to the bottom.

Sterling silver "State flowers" salt cellar spoons, Spode's "Buttercup" dishes and a copper bowl.

Some yellow plates and a hen topped bowl server, I just bought yesterday from TJ Maxx. John and I made a trip to Baton Rouge Saturday, to buy each other a Wedding anniversary present and I told him to just take me to TJ Maxx, and of course, I filled my cart, lol.

Silver plated EPN with Victorian figural bird finial set (Note to myself: I need to polish them soon). Blue and white pottery tea set.

Hammersley's "Bird of Paradise" dish set and a chicken cloche I also got as part of my TJ Maxx "anniversary present" shopping spree.

This is the middle row of the cabinet. The succeeding pictures will again show an enlarged view of each shelf.

A brown and white transferware soup tureen I just bought from Richard of "My Old Historic House", oyster plates including a Limoges set, bee sugar and creamer server set, its teapot that I am still hunting for, salt cellar with tiny spoons, some ceramic roses and books.

"Winterling" Coffee or tea set and Spode "Emma's Garland" tray and tea set. I have the coordinating plates kept in the foyer's console cabinet, and a polish "Warvel" tea set. I have the complete dinnerware set stored in a china cabinet in the dining room.

I do not know what the pattern and maker is on the dessert plates and the tea set on the left. The tea cups in front of it says "I don't go to the gym, I garden", which is me:-) . The one on the right is a tea set bt Fitz and Floyd "Bellacara". I am still on a lookout for a creamer to complete the set.

Staffordshire's brown and white transferware "Royal Mail", some sterling silver tea spoons, Limoges black and white transfer salad plates and a rooster egg server.

This is the row on the right. The next photos that follow will show an enlarged view of each shelf.

The top displays our Johnson Brothers "Old Britain Castles" set with a lidded server I bought from Nancy of "Nancy's Daily Dish" and a swan salt cellar.

More of the red and white "Old Britain Castles" transferware, brown and white transferware cruet set and Johann Haviland "Brown Rose" tea set.
The rest of the "Brown Rose" dish set is stored in the dining room china cabinet.

Next is a Fleur de Lis tea set I bought in New Orleans, a silver plated bon bon tray, a tureen with a blue bird and a dessert serving set.

The bottom shelf consists of my Tirschenreuth Bavarian "Rosedale" dish set.

This is how the cabinet looks like now with the doors closed.

I did not change anything on the top of the cabinet. It still has some soup tureens, our sterling silver tea and coffee set. Polish pottery fluted bowl servers and others.

And that concludes the tour of the kitchen china cabinet. I am such a dishaholic that this is only 1 of my 7 china cabinets and now I am organizing our walk in closet in the garage so I can easily access the dish sets there.
