A Pinteresting Christmas Challenge

Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen is having a A PINTERESTING CHRISTMAS TABLE challenge. I have a hard time finding a picture of what I wanted to do but finally settled on the table below.

 

 This is my version.

 

Below is the picture from Pinterest that I copied from the account of The Adventures of Tartanscot and you can see it on his blog here. 

I actually also have those Old Britain Castles Christmas tree plates but they are in our Cape Coral, FL home so I opted to use my Friendly Village transferware set.

 

Well, what do you think? Did I pass as a copycatter?

 Now, it's time to show all the details. I started with laying placemats and table runners with cardinals and poinsettias. I know I have 8 placemats but somehow, I could not locate the 8th one. Does this ever happen to you, misplacing a part of a set? Anyway, good thing I have 4 table runners of the same pattern so I used 3 runners and 4 placemats for a place setting for 8. It worked!

I got to use my "Believe" plate chargers again, topped with Friendly Village dinner plates and alternating a round and square salad plates from the same set.

The champagne flutes are Micasa "Gemstones", which I paired with red Italian wine crystals.

The silver plated flatware are from Wm. Rodgers and sons but I cannot remember the pattern name. I like that they have not tarnished since I bought them about 3 years ago from Ebay.

 

The centerpiece was a pair of santas and lots of  Christmas trees in various sizes.

I added 2 candles on each ends.

 

 

 

 

I added little village houses too. The one below is from Bernkastel, Germany.

 I took 2 panoramic shots.

 

 I placed my 3 Villeroy & Boch apple bakers on the buffet.

 This bowl with Christmas balls was on the table before I set the tablescape and I moved it on a pedestal table near the window.

Main Table for Thanksgiving Dinner in Natchez, 2014

I got to spend Thanksgiving at home in Natchez. I had to set 2 tables because all guests would not fit in one. The adults sat here and I had a table in front of the fireplace in the kitchen for the kids. I will share that table next week because I do not want to bore you with picture overload.

 We were 9 adults, actually 11 but 2 of them came late because they had to attend a family dinner so they just joined us for dessert. I placed 2 chairs on one end of the table to accommodate all since my table normally only holds 8.

 I chose to use Polish pottery instead of the usual traditional orange and green Thanksgiving plates. They are my "Go to" dishes when I do not have too much time to prepare because they are stored in the kitchen cabinets and are easily accessible.

 However, I added rust colored napkins to have the feel for Fall. I mixed and matched the Polish pottery plates and some of them have some rustic colored design in the center, but mostly blue, green and white.

 I have this big wooden bowl that I filled with squash and pumpkins for my centerpiece. I added a few antlers and straw twigs to make it look somewhat rustic.

 I used amber iris goblets and Polish pottery wine glasses.

Here is a close up of the plates showing woodsy designs, which I think are perfect for Fall.

 Polish pottery and Spode S & P shakers and pumpkin and asparagus napkin rings from Williams Sonoma.

 Artichoke and pinecones for place card holders, also from Williams Sonoma.

Thanksgiving Table I left Florida, 2014

I am home in Mississippi now but before I left, I set the Thanksgiving table for Rochelle and her family. They will just have a quiet family dinner because Rea is restricted to be near anyone who traveled by plane. They are just very fortunate and we are all very happy that Rea is home to celebrate this special holiday. We sure have a lot to be thankful for.

 I gave Rochelle these Queen's turkey salad plates so I got to use them. I have the same set here at home.

 Rochelle bought this material from Old World Pottery to recover the chair cushions messed up by the kids and there was a lot leftover so I made it into a table cloth. The colors are perfect for the season.

 Pilgrims S & P shakers

 Pilgrims used as centerpieces against a large tin pumpkin. They aren't allowed to have live plants or flowers to be near Rea because chemo and post transplant kids are sensitive to them and they might carry bacteria and we need to protect her from any kind of infection.

It is a pretty simple table but I am happy with it. I hope they enjoy it.

Old Everyday Fall Dishes

 I have been staying in Florida because my 2 and half year old granddaughter Rea has been undergoing treatment for cancer. In 7 months, I must have been home only for a total of 5 weeks in 2 trips. But I am happy to say that Rea is free of cancer now and is doing very well and we are so thankful. Here is Rea playing with her twin sister Halle, about 3 weeks post her auto stem cell transplant. She is not done with treatment though but they are mostly preventative right now, to prevent relapse. She starts radiation on Monday for a total of 12 days. Please continue to pray for her and I will be forever thankful.

 

 

Anyway, this post was one of our quiet dinners while I was home in Natchez. It was just one of our regular meals using some of our everyday dishes.

 

Do you see those blue Kalorik electronic gravity salt and pepper shakers? All you have to do is turn them over and they sprinkle the salt or pepper. No need to turn anything. DH loves them.

I bought these plates and bowls from the Dollar Store in Florida, before we even moved to Natchez about 8 years ago. They are so sturdy and as much as they are used, no single piece has broken yet. The colors are perfect for Fall.

We just had seared tuna steak and Caesar salad, both John's favorites, and of course, rice.

 

 

John likes his tuna rare but I like mine cooked throughout.
