A Quiet Birthday Dinner at Home That Never Happened

A few weeks ago, dh and I celebrated our birthday. We were born on the same day, 3 years apart. I set the table for a nice quiet evening for the 2 of us. Then he came home from work and said, "Let's go out to dinner". Of course I was agreeable since that always beats cooking and slaving away in the kitchen, lol.
Good thing, Susan of http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ is hosting Tablescape Thursday. At least my table setting is not totally wasted. Go on over and visit Susan's site. She and her participants always have the most gorgeous tablescapes.
A friend of ours brought us the colorful cake.

For a centerpiece, I took a Meissen figurine with 2 little girls and placed it on top of a tureen that I turned upside down. Then I picked some roses and some yellow flowers from the garden and placed them on the little bowl between the 2 porcelain girls.
I used our Bavarian Tirschenreuth china in Rosedale pattern. I thought my tablecloth matched both the china and the cake. I bought it from Grand Cayman.
The goblets are Marquis by Waterford in Omega pattern from TJ Maxx. I bought the etched crystal wine glasses from an antique store.
Hey! It looks like the Meissen centerpiece matches the tablecloth too!

Do you see our framed and signed Salvador Dali lithograph on the wall? The art title is "Mad Tea Party" Both that and the pottery oil painting on the left have been moved.

I like this pair of crystal candle holders. I got them from Ebay a while back.

I used the Meissen napkin rings. I got the salt cellars from Ebay also. I think I have 8 of them, I cannot remember. The tiny spoon is from an antique estate sale in Port Gibbons.
Thanks, Susan for hosting one of my favorite memes.
And thank you all for coming by!

Christine your table setting is beautiful! I love those sweet meissen girls. I'm quite sure no restaurant could match the decor of your own table! But that was really sweet of your hubby. How was dinner out? And again Happy 40th Birthday!*winks* V

I'd go out to eat any day instead of cooking, too! LOL

Your table is just lovely with all your special finds from your travels. I adore that tablecloth & your Meissen figurine is just darling. What a perfect holder for a few of your pretty flowers from your awesome gardens. Great idea!

Look at all that work you did for a birthday dinner and then you go out. I guess it is a good thing you were able to use the setting for your blog. Pretty cake and belated happy birthday.

How terrific that you and your DH share the same birthday! (you were meant to be together!)Happy Bday to both of you! Isn't it great that although you set the table and didn't "use" it for the occasion, the rest of us can certainly enjoy it! Happy belated birthday! Your china is beautiful, as always, as is the tablecloth, salt cellars and napkin rings. Don't you love it when the husband decides to take you out? We never eat at my tablescapes either! ;O)

Well first of all, Happy Birthday!

I, too, would always choose going out to dinner over even the MOST beautifully set dining table. Because no matter how beautiful the dishes, I'd just as soon not wash them!

Your table is charming; I especially love the napkin rings, and those little etched wine glasses; how sweet!

Christine, I wish you both all the best to your and husbands birthday. May you have blessing, luck and delight for the coming years. I surely admire your Meissen figurine because that's a artful work and so lovely design. But you decorated it perfectly on a stand and with that amazing tablecloth. I have never seen a nicer one. Your table is a gorgeous birthday table. Glad, that you shared it with us.
Have a good time, Johanna

Oh Christine, this is so gorgeous! It's a shame you never got to sit at it, but going out is good too! I love the china and tablecloth together. The salts and napkin rings are outstanding. Just gorgeous!

I would think you're probably asked the same question that I'm frequently asked, "Where do you keep it all?". So in celebration of my first blgiversary, I'm holding a meme entitled just that: "Where do you keep it all?" on June 2, 2010. Come grab my button and join us!

Christine, I LOVE this tablescape. All of the dainty little flowers on the tablecloth, the china, the napkin rings, the salt cellars and that sweet centerpiece just look beautiful! Those sweet little girls holding roses make such a pretty centerpiece, and how smart of you to use the tureen upside down. Glad you got to go out and eat for your b'day, but I'm also glad you had already set this pretty table, so you could show it on your blog. laurie
