Napoleon and Company Demitasse Cups

Hi all! I've been busy all day emptying a china cabinet in the kitchen. I could not believe how much dishes I was able to fit in there. I took pictures and maybe I'll show it for Kim's A + B party. It just seemed impossible but I know for a fact they all came from there.
Anyway, for today I would like to join Marty's tabletop and tea parties. Links will be below.
We're having expresso or capuccino in the living room using my Napoleon and company demitasse cups.
This is our coffee table top in the formal living room.

I have shown this set before but I would really love to know more about it so if any of you have any info, please let me know. We won it at an antique auction for about $37.00, I think.

This is the marking under the cups.

There is a different person pictured on each cup. I am pretty sure one of them is Napoleon but I do not know the other 2. Vanna, maybe you know and you can tell me.

Cornelia, who is frequently a tablescaping guest at Susan's sent me this link where they were selling one cup set for CHF 450 (not sure what that currency is) but she said it is equivalent to pretty much the same in US $, I think. http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/antiquitaeten-und-kunst/antikes-porzellan/kaffee-und-teegeschirr/napoleon-portraittasse-und-teller/v/an587424632/
Sorry, I do not know how to make a short cut of the link. Gloria of Happy to Be sent me the instructions before but it is gone with my crashed old computer. Whoever can tell me how to do it, please email me the instructions.

Here's Napoleon in the foreground. Who is the other guy?

Here is the marking under the cup.

Marking under the saucer

I really love this tray that came with the set.

On the table is also a Sevres compote and a vase with roses. They're dried flowers cause none of my rose plants is producing any fresh flowers yet.

I bought this tutu dancers figurine from Vanna. I love it! Next to it is a lion head sculpted candle.

I placed the candle inside a crown.

This is my under the table shelf top, a Sevres casket, a little bejeweled bunny, my collection of raw semi precious rocks and stones, a peacock figurine, a Meissen bird figure, a small urn with faux roses and a Turkish (I think) chess set my stepdaughter gave her dad. Also, a little tree with amber stones.

Sorry - I am of no help, but you have some pretty treasures. I have a "crashed' computer also, that I need to take the hard drive out of and destroy, but just have not wanted to deal with getting it done.
Enjoy your week.

Christine, those are precious! I can't believe you had them in all in one cabinet!

Awww Christine I thought I recognized those sweet girls! Yes the one is definitely Napoleon as is the platter (Did it come with the set too?) Because pardon my french here... Mère sainte de Dieu!! That was a steal my friend! The other cup is probably Josephine? But I'm embarrassed to admit I'm not sure who the other gentlemen is. A famous french general is my guess. I'll get back to you on that one. The set is from Switzerland and the 450 CHF is about $475 US...for one cup! And you have a whole set! You have some really exquisite things Christine! I'm coming over and we need to hit some of those auctions my friend! *winks*

The bears of Bern, Switzerland. The markings are in French. Political leaders who caused Bern angst. I believe the lady is Queen Anne...possibly...probably since she tried to take away religious freedom. It is a play on words since Bern is known for bears, the animal. A polictical statement dating back to the 1700's. The marking could possibly be that of Naples. The Crowned "N" in red. I am uncertain of the last part though but thinking this is close. Sleepy but blessings to you my dear friend.

Hello there Christine,

I'm delighted that you joined us once again with the fun for TTTT as well as for the 67th, 'Tuesday Tea For Two'; our little corner of, 'Tuesday Tea Time In Blogland!..,

~ (Yes there were accidentally 'two' links; thanks for mentioning it Christine. ~ (I had posted about my technical difficulties at the time, yet I realize that there is always so much to read on each blog when we are all visiting one another)..,

.., (Thankfully I was able to remove the extra links without messing up my post)!..,

And oh my! ~ I just love, love, love your tea table vignette this week!..,

..,Every exquisite detail on your teatable vignette, from the incredible teaset to the beyond lovely antiques are marvelous! ~ Simply stunning in their detail and vintage beauty!..,

~ As an aside; there is a special category of collectors teacups that are finely rendered and very high quality called; 'cabinet teacups'. .., They are true collectors rarities and are thus aptly named as a very special category of collectable. ~ The owners usually reserved these rare teacup beauties for display only and placed them most carefully in fine display, 'cabinets'!..,

They were usually made in the late 1700's to the early and mid 1800's at the latest I believe; these seem to be made later, although they are lovely Christine!..,

Whereas I am by no means an expert in antique teacups; their makers, values and markings, unfortunately I do not recognize the markings.

Hope this is of a wee bit of interest..,

Thanks so much for sharing this loveliness with all of us!..,

Have a wonderful week!

Cheers and hugs from Wanda Lee

P. S. ~ Sorry I was so late this week in posting due to technical difficulties, (especially with my, 'The Plumed Pen' blog).

Hi Christine,
those are really outstanding cups, very nice in decor and very impressive. Love the artful paited faces. Alas, I don't know anything about them. Could the crowned N be tha mark of antique Capodimonte? I am not sure.

That is a beautiful set. I don't know anything about it but it is lovely. I think your tutu girls are Dresdon, my grandmother had several.
When you copy the link you just click on the little green thing at the top next to the color selection. You just put the link in the box that comes up but I always delete the http:// that is in the box when you open it.

That's an exquisite set, Christine. I can't tell from the picture, but check online and see if the other man is General Lafayette. It could well be. Not sure who the woman is. The other gentleman might also be Napoleon's nephew. I would check photos online of those two and see if you can find a match. Either way, that's a wonderful set, and I think it is far and away much more expensive than the price you paid. I would think that cabinet cups of that high a quality would each be worth more than that. Good deal!

XO,

Sheila :-)
