Lumpia, Filipino eggrolls

It's Friday! Let's all go to Gollum's at http://designsbygollum.blogspot.com/ and join the potluck and taste what everybody is bringing!. See you there!
I decided to bring some Filipino eggrolls that we call "lumpia".
Sorry, I forgot to take pictures before I started everything. As you can see here, most of the eggrolls have already been rolled so I only have a few filling left. But I can tell you what my ingredients are.

cooking oil, about 2 tbsps for cooking and then a lot for frying the eggrolls after they are rolled.
onion, chopped into small pieces
garlic, crushed
garlic salt
salt and pepper to taste
pork, cut up into small cubes
potatoes, cut up into small cubes
shrimp, cut up into small pieces
bean sprout
cabbage, sliced into small pieces
carrots, sliced into small pieces
eggroll wrappers

Sorry, I can't give you the exact measurement cause I just throw in whatever I have available. It really does not matter if you have more of one or the other, just a matter of preference. I think it comes out just as good, no matter what you do.

Heat about 2 tablespoons of oil. Cook the garlic and then drop the onions and cook until a little transparent. Add the pork and potatoes and cook, add the shrimp and the veggies. Season.
After it is cooked, drain throroughly and let cool.

This is how it will look like.
Wrap in eggroll wrappers individually just like below.
I seal the ends with water or egg white.

Store whatever you will not use into a ziploc bag and freeze for later use.
Heat the oil until it is REALLY hot.
Drop the wrapped eggrolls one by one being careful not to break the skin. Turn after one side is brown and cook the other side until brown.
I like to either put them in a strainer after they are cooked before putting them in a serving platter or just line up the serving platter with a paper towel to drain or blot the excess oil.
Now we're ready to eat. You can use sweet and sour sauce to dip them into. I like to use vinegar with crushed garlic, salt and pepper and hot pepper to dip mine.

Enjoy! Now, let's go taste the other food!
Thanks Gollum, for hosting the potluck again!

French Countryside luncheon

Thursday, my favorite day of the week is here again and I get to play with my dinnerware toys and table. Yipee! Thanks to Susan at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ for hosting this fun event. Come join the fun and go to Susan's blog and check out everybody else's amazing tablescapes.

For this week, I decided to create a French countryside luncheon for my mama and me (John is working so I can afford to buy more dinnerware sets:-), too bad cause he will miss the fun) so out comes my Frenchy dinnerware, at least they look Frenchy to me. I love the color, I think it is called robin blue. I found the sheep at Ross in Florida and they were so cheap, a sheep family of 4 for I think $5.99. How could I resist? What's more, they were packed in boxes in a box, so I knew I could easily throw them in my luggage without the risk of breaking them during my flight. I hope Debbie at http://confessionsofaplateaddict.blogspot.com/, who is an expert in French table setting, does not laugh at me cause this might not look French countryish at all. I have been to France at least 3 x but have never dined in the countryside, but I see a lot of sheep on the mountains, thus came the inspiration of this tablescape.

I took the ivy growing in a fleur de lis mini trellis and placed it on the table. Now that's definitely French, isn't it?
Isn't my sheep family cute? The lamb is even eating grass. Nooooo!.... that's my table runner!
Just to add color, I went outside to cut camelias from our bush and placed them in a white tin vase. That sounds French country to me!

Look! The grass outside is getting greener. I am sure the sheep would rather be out there.

Did you notice how I replaced the blue candles with these yellowish flowered ones? They smell so good but which one do you think looks better?

There's my mama's napkin. The napkin holder is a combo ring and place card holder. I bought it when they had it on clearance on a Southern Living at Home show.

Oh no! I have a rooster salt and pepper shakers too and I forgot to put them on the table. They would have been French countryish, right? Oh well!...I am having a senior moment here so forgive me. LOL!
Well, I hope you enjoyed my French countryside luncheon setting. Debbie, I tried! LOL!

Thanks again for coming and thanks Susan, for this lovely and fun event!.

Triple Post: Wedding Crafts, Crabbing for Outdoor Post and Salvador Dali on Our Walls

It's Wednesday and a lot is going on in Blogland. I decided to get busy so I can join 3 of the events. I hope you don't get tired of my post because it is kinda long. I will start with Wordless Wednesday, hosted by Dixie at http://frenchlique.blogspot.com/, so I can rest my vocal chords since I will be doing a lot of talking later. LOL! Please visit Dixie's blog and check out what she is being quiet about today and then visit everybody else who are participating.
For my contribution, I would like to share all the crafts that I created for my youngest daughter Tina's wedding. I sewed the 3 flower girl gowns from scratch, made their hair dresses and baskets, made the coin and ring bearer's pillows, created all the bouquets, corsage and boutonnieres, birdcage for cards, centerpieces (2 kinds: roses on tall vases and candle lanterns) and wedding favors. (ooops, forgot to upload a picture). Now, I can keep mum!

Thanks Dixie, for allowing me to participate on this one.
Now, for Outdoor Wednesday, hosted by Susan at http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/, I would like to share our crabbing experience in Florida. Please visit Susan and all the others who are participating and let's all have an outdoor fun!
My hubby John, and his daughter Heather and I went to the Anclote River one summer. At first, the crab just kept getting away but after a while, I got the hang of it and I was scooping out those babies left and right. John and Heather did not get a lot. They need more practice...LOL!
but they got to pose with the ones I caught:-)

Here they are!
We steamed and ate them. Yummy!
Thanks, Susan, for hosting this fun event!
Wanna see more? I promise this is the last, LOL! What's on Your Wall Wednesday is hosted by Barb at http://gritsglamour.blogspot.com/. You've got to visit Barb and enjoy her blog to see all her neat ideas of transforming simple items creatively and enjoy her home decor. She is a very talented Southerner. We have 2 originally signed lithographs by Salvador Dali (1904-1989), a Spaniard artist who experimented with nearly all known media from sculpture to literature to painting. We have both of them hanging in the game portion of our family room. This particular one is titled "Mad Tea Party". There are 500 of these and ours is #273.
Here's his signature.

This one is more rare. There were only 50 made. It portrays Don Quixote and his sidekick. I kinda like the colors of the other one better, don't you?
Here's the signature.
Thank you so much for your visit. I hope you enjoyed my post even it's too long.
Thanks again Barb, for hosting this event.

Bronze Fireplace Fender

Welcome to Second Time around Tuesday, hosted by Diane at http://diane1876.blogspot.com/. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words so show us your pictures and join in the fun and then go visit Diane and browse through everyone else's treasures. I am very excited to join in for the very first time. I would like to share with you pictures of our fireplace fender. I think that's what Vanna over at http://lvroftiques.blogspot.com/ told me it is. If you have not visited Vanna's blog, you are missing out so you should go and check out all her pretties. And if you like her style, check out her web shop too at http://delusionsofgrandeurenablerboutiqu.blogspot.com. Lucky for us cause she is running out of room in her house for all these treasures so she is trying to get rid of them. I already reserved something for me, LOL!
Back to the fender, it's a very heavy bronze and I love all the details on it, the medallion, acanthus leaves and the curvy ends. Best of all, we got it for free.
Just look at the details on that carved medallion. Click to enlarge!
I said we got it for free but it's not as simple as that. The seller's uncle who owned the estate and who was a famous antique dealer in town and was only in his 50's, died so suddenly. Most of his antiques and store treasures were auctioned off but they were still selling 2 antebellum houses that he owned downtown. We went to check out his antique store to see if it was empty and were surprised to see that his nephew opened it up again to continue the legacy. We bought a patio set and a pair of Sevres eggs (I'll blog about them someday with dh's other massive egg collection, LOL!) and lamps but he wasn't set up to accept credit cards. I don't know about you but when I am spending money, I want those travel rewards or any rewards I can get for spending, so I use credit cards instead of cash. He told us he would be ready to accept credit cards in 2 weeks and that he would call. Part of the patio set was still in his house and he told us to go there to inspect it. While there, we asked to see the 2 historical antebellum houses and the Rolls Royce that were up for sale. That's where I saw this fireplace fender. It was sitting in front of his fireplace.
I was so attracted to it so I asked if he would sell it to me. He told me he had to ask his mom because he did not know how much to sell it for and that he would call me later.

5 weeks later, he finally called, we settled on the bill and picked up the items that we bought. Then, he said because we have been so patient, he will just give me the fender for free. Whoohoo! That's a magic word for me that makes me REALLY happy!
I hope you enjoyed seeing this 2nd time around treasure. Thanks for coming by and thanks to Diane for hosting this enjoyable moment.
