Switching Between Living and Family Rooms

On Saturday morning, we went to Baton Rouge to pick up my vehicle. I have to mention that I had it towed there, which is 82 miles from here, last Wednesday, where the nearest dealer is, because it would not start. It was nothing major, just the battery that had to be replaced and since the vehicle was already there, I told them to go ahead and do a wheel alignment and flush and replace the brake fluid.

Since we were already there, we went shopping at Target. We have no Target in the city where we live. It was still early when we got done and John asked if I wanted to go to Red Door, which is a home decor and accessories shop. But, of course! And so we did and while we were there, I showed John this cabinet. I told him for us to wait when they put it on sale but he said if they agree to pay for delivery, we can buy it. I talked to the store manager and she gave us a 15% discount but we had to pay for delivery, which came out less than the 15%, so we bought it. But uh-oh, our house is already full of furniture, though I could use more dish storage, but where will I put this?

 We both agreed to put it in the family room. I thought it fits the style but we already have a cabinet there. See below. I have been wanting to keep the rustic look of the FR because it is more relaxing and we use this room a lot and the existing cabinet, I thought was too formal.

So, I thought I would rearrange the cabinets in the dining room and move this to one wall there.

I kept measuring last night and unfortunately, this cabinet would not fit the wall where I wanted to put it. So now, we are thinking of selling it at my booth.

 That cabinet led to my moving a lot of furniture around, lol. Am I the only one who is like that around here?

I thought this antique parlor set was too formal for here too. Besides, compared to the leather sofas and recliners, I always thought the scale is too small. So, I decided to move them to the living room.

See that cabinet in the far left of the family room? That is where the new one is going. It's slightly shorter and smaller than that.

 I have a pair of these French pedestal tables. They were in the corners of the walls separating the LR from the foyer. I had to move them because I had to move some tables that used to be where the parlor set is now. Now the pedestals are in front of the windows.

 The sofa across the parlor set seems to be permanently placed there. Do you see the orchid painting above it? Hard to believe that I painted that 5 years ago and it is still hanging. Usually, I get sick of seeing the same one, lol. I moved this little table from the FR also.

And this is the LR mantel. I have had that lidded solid jade urn  in the center since the kids were young.

I moved this lamp in the corner.

 We have a lot of Sevres collection here, urns, egg compotes, bowl, etc. You will see them all around, all celeste blue in color.

 This French cabinet was in the wall where the parlor set is now. I had to move it to another wall. My sister gave me that antique clock.

I moved these 2 chairs from the living room and they are now by the fireplace in the family room.

Tomorrow, I will work on the dining room. It is a never ending work around here. I am always organizing. Good thing I enoy it a lot.

What do you think of what I did? I hope you like the changes but I know they will change again someday. For now, I am keeping them this way, for how long, I really can't tell. I am having mixed feelings about getting rid of the old cabinet in the family room cause I really like it too. I wish I could move it somewhere but one home can only have so much walls, lol.

Farewell Tea Party Turned Dinner

A friend of ours is moving to KY with her hubby to pursue her Ph.D studies. I decided to throw a despedida tea party for them. But after planning and inviting friends, I was worried that they would stay longer so I decided to make paella also. When they found out about that, most of them brought dinner items too so the party lingered and we all had so much fun!

I used various tea sets since I served various flavored teas. For tea cups, I used Johann Haviland's Brown Rose and Warvel pieces made in Poland and also some Tirschenreuth Hutschenreuther Gruppe. Basically I picked patterns with pink in them since I used  a toile pink and blue tablecloth and napkins.

I first saw the toile tablecloth from Cherry Kay's table and fell in love with it and just had to have it.The colors clashed with our dining room walls but I did not care, I wanted to use it. Fortunately, nobody even noticed since their eyes were focused on the table.

The Bon Appetit napkin rings were some of my latest acquisitions. They were from a clearance table of Williams Sonoma in Destin, FL.

I used a fluted on pedestal Polish pottery bowl to serve the paella.

I bought this white lattice Gracie China Victorian Bird tea set from Illinois when I went there a few weeks ago for my mother's 94th birthday celebration. I placed the tea set on a "Fromage" plateau tray I also bought from WS in Destin.

The set consisted of several pieces including a coffee pot, tray, sugar and creamer, bonbon and this little basket that I used to served various sugars.

Mangoes, yum! I got them for 50 cents each at Walmart and they were so good.

Below is another tea set from Global design connection by Kate Williams. I brought it from TJ Maxx in Park City, Utah.

I cut a mix of flowers from the garden and placed them in a vase with pink roses and cherubs. The daisies on the right are faux.

Oh, I almost forgot about this. I also served tea from this Tirschenreuth Briar Rose tea set.

I ran out of room on the table after the food were placed so I used the buffet to lay the dessert plates and flatware.

I won the maidens compote centerpiece from my very first auction here in Natchez. I just borrowed it from the living room.

I usually keep my natural rock collection on it and spread some dried flowers for potpourri.

Here is all of us. After dinner and socializing a bit, we did Karaoke and had so much fun.

Lots of Glasswares and Others

While I was attending my mother's 94th birthday celebration in Illinois, John was shopping at an estate sale back home. He texted me some pictures of what was available and I told him I like the red orange gravy glass but look at what he got in addition to it, lol. And you all thought I was the shopper? The hardest thing for me now is deciding what to keep and which ones to sell at the store. I am definitely keeping the red orange glassware and also the ice lipped pitcher and the 2 apothecary jars. These are very heavy glass, a lot of them are marked Fostoria.

You think this is a lot? Wait, there's more!

 I am not very familiar with Fostoria or other glassware and I have no idea what to tag them when I take them to the store. The price that you see are the original tags at the estate sale. I would appreciate any advice from any experts out there.

There are 2 punch bowl sets and I am thinking of keeping this. It has a really nice glass ladle and I like the 16 pedestal cups.

Any idea on how much I can sell these? Just like I said, they are very heavy. They still need some washing.

Three divided relish trays and a smaller tray, vase, 2 drinking glasses and Christmas mugs still in boxes.

He bought all these too except for the plates in racks, which we have had for sometime. They are Fall colored dishes with a rooster. Maybe I will create a Fall tablescape with them first before I sell them.

I already tagged these teacups and I am taking them to the store.

John also bought these 2 raspberry glass lamps and he told me to keep them.

What about this lamp, glass trays and tankards? I have no idea how much to sell them.

His van was full of boxes, including this which is full of dolls. I hope I can recover what he paid for all these. He said he paid $600 for all and he really thinks he got a very good deal. Do you agree?.

Ok, now I am done with what John bought. It's my turn to share what I bought mostly from Destin.

This is a majolica cupid vase that I got from an antique shop for $24.95. It is hard to tell from the picture but those are cupid heads on top.

A Le Creuset paella pan from the Premium Outlet Mall in Destin. I can't wait to try it......so heavy! I have other Le Creuset pots and pans which I like using.

I found these Bon Appetit napkin rings and a matching butter dome from Williams Sonoma. I also bought a matching plateau which you will see in the next photo, all from their clearance table.

Here is the plateau. The tea set I hand carried from my Illinois trip. There are more pieces but I'll show them after I take pictures of my tea party which I am having on Saturday. One of our Filipino friends here is moving to KY to take her Ph.D. in Education so we are giving her and her husband a despedida party.

John and I went to one antique mall in Destin and everything was so expensive. John went back to the car but I kept browsing. Then I found a booth who is having a 50% off moving sale and saw these Italian plates, 10 dinner plates and 9 salad plates. After checking the price from the sales clerk who had to call the owner, I grabbed them. I got them all for a total of $15.00 and I was so happy, less than $1 each. It pays to be patient! I already own a set of these but these will just make my set bigger and I paid a lot more than that on what I already have.

I also bought these 4 Blue Willow divided plates from the next booth for $16 each less 10%. Other booths were selling them for $26 each.

John bought the cone shells from another antique store and I bought this toile cup and saucer from Marshall's for $5.

When we got home, a package containing this tea set was waiting for me. I ordered it from Annie's Tea Time where I usually order my Whittard of Chelsea instant teas.
