Thanksgiving Tablescape For Cape Coral Home

Before I share my table, I want to say that I have so much to be thankful for but the very first on the list is my granddaughter Rea, who is home doing very well after her auto bone marrow (stem cell) transplant and I thank the Lord for her "Complete Response" after 5 whole cycles of chemo plus the last strongest one right before the stem cell transplant. She is now enjoying playing with her sisters. She still has more treatments coming but they are now more preventable procedures. Thank you to everyone who have been praying for her.

We will not be here for Thanksgiving but I set the table because my brother and his wife and some of her relatives are stopping by and staying here for a day or 2 before they proceed to Miami for a cruise and it just happens to be on Thanksgiving weekend.

I got to use the turkey plates I bought from Pottery Barn a few years ago when they went on clearance sale.

I have always admired these white wooden plate chargers whenever I saw them on others' tablescapes and I finally bought them when they went on sale at Pier 1. I have a hard time buying anything at full price.

Green stemmed glass goblets from the dollar store and the crystal wine glasses are from Homegoods.

Napkin rings from a consignment shop in Cape Coral. I brought the napkins from our Natchez home and the flatware set. I have to remind myself to bring more flatware sets from Natchez.

The table cloth was a gift when I bought something from an antique shop in NY. I just left it stashed away for years because it is a little short for our table in Natchez but it is perfect here.

Rooster and house S and P shakers. I think they are Fitz and Floyd.

I like the piercing of the tablecloth.

I took the next 2 pictures just before I left.

A little accident on the buffet table happened while I was taking pictures. The taper candles were closer to the lamp shades and when I looked, I saw a big hole on each shade. The fire was not touching them but the heat melted a part of each of them. I had to turn the shades around, at least until I have the time to shop and replace them. Yikes!

Sushi Dinner at Home

I am only home in Natchez for 3 weeks while being away pretty much all summer, so I tried to cook a nice variety of dinners every night for John since he hardly eats home cooked meals when I am gone. One night, we had sushi and miso soup. I found some dried squid in the cupboard and I served them too. John loves them and asked where I got them from.

Oh BTW, did you notice the fireplace mantel in the kitchen? It used to be brown and I painted it using Annie Sloan's chalk paint "Cream" color. It has a very slight very pale yellow tinge.

I used a plain square (or is that more like a trapezoid?) white ceramic plate chargers under the sushi plates and saucer.

Japanese warriors I pulled out of the bookshelves and an orchid borrowed from the family room are perfect for this table.

I have bamboo placemats but I moved them from their original location and I could not remember where. I am having a senior moment:-) Anyway, I saw these weaved ones in the garage and they work well and I like them too.

I just made California rolls.

Embroidered monogrammed napkins.

Chopsticks on a celadon fish chopstick rest.

Napkins and Celedon soup bowls with miso soup.

My ceramic cow is special. She serves soy sauce instead of milk.

Celedon tea set and a Japanese girl figurine I bought from Horchow many years ago.

Asian tea cups are always smaller.

Villeroy & Boch Apple Bakers

This table is inspired by my Villeroy and Boch apple bakers. Besides, apples are really good at this time of the year.

It all started when I spotted this apple baker while touring Trier City in Germany when I entered a Villeroy and Boch store. I did not buy any because aside from being so pricey (and in euros), they are very breakable and bulky and our luggage were already overweight by that time, but I was so tempted.

Then, I saw them on Ebay with free shipping and I had to have at least 2 of them.

I love how they look on the table.

The recipe even came with the bakers. Pecans, butter, brown sugar, lemon zest placed in the apple cavity after it is cored and maple syrup poured on it. Light the tea light candle under the baker and bake right there for one hour. It dispersed this wonderful aroma throughout the whole house too while baking. Yum!
