We have owned this house for about 2 years now but this is the first time I am showing the first guest room. We bought the house primarily because it is right next door to my youngest daughter's house and her family. It is the smallest bedroom in the house and the bed in it is a queen size. The seller left the bedroom set with the bed, including that frame above the bed, lamps and the candle holders, so I had to work with them. We really did not want to spend any money buying furniture because we plan to retire here and we already have a house that is almost twice as big as this in Natchez and it is packed with furniture.
Anyway, this is how the sellers had this room when I looked at it for the first time. I could already tell that the frame is too small for the wall.
The curtains were too dark, making the room look even smaller. And of course, I did not like that cable showing on that wall.
After we closed on the house, I immediately moved the armoire that I found in the other guest room, to that wall, and it matches the furniture here.
I found this curtain from Dirt Cheap in Natchez for $3. Yes, it was dirt cheap but I love it, love the texture and the bows.
I found the bird cage in a yard sale close to my other daughter's house in another city of Florida. I think it was $10. Then, I moved the candles next to it. They were left by the sellers on the dresser as seen in the first picture.
I took the palm tree picture that the seller's left in the family room and moved it above the bed but I knew it would be temporary because I do not like it.
I like how bright the room is already.
When I washed the comforter, it got deformed so I replaced it with a quilt.
When my granddaughter AJ came to visit us one summer in Natchez, I packed this with another painting and sent the package back to Fl with her.
I decided to replace the palm picture with this and I really like it.
I found a quilt with 2 matching shams on clearance for $5.00 at Homegoods. I really did not need it when I saw it but at that price for a queen size, who can resist? I replaced the folded quilt at the bottom of the bed with it and used the matching shams too.
I think the colors of the frame and painting itself blend so well with the wall color.
I added this little painting that I brought from the Natchez home, in the little wall by the door.
I have since added another white vase on the left end table.
The white vase on the left end table shows just a little here.
I am happy with how the room looks now and I will leave it like this for a while. Hope you like it too. Thank you for stopping by and thank you to the hostesses too.

Christine, Your room is very beautiful. I am glad you removed the palm painting. I love the painting that you put in its place. It so very pretty! I love roosters and birds of any kind.
Very pretty. I think your changes make the guest room so warm and inviting!! And it still looks a bit tropical, which I love! The bedding is very nice as well as the curtains. I know I'd be comfy here! :)

Very Pretty! The room has a warmer/copy feel to it now.
Hope you enjoyed the weekend.
"cozy" Not copy feel. My fingers work faster than my brain sometimes. LOL
Your room looks great, Christine! I'll bet you are counting down the days to retirement so you can be closer to your daughters.
Hugs and blessings, Beth
Great transformations. I am glad you kept the orange wall. Thanks for sharing with Mandarin Orange Monday
I love what you have done here to the room! The colors are beautiful. My kind of shopping too! Thrifty! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Whoa, Nellie!!!!!!!!! You really changed up this room with just a few light touches! Changing out the window treatments made all the difference in the world!!! Why on earth did they have those dark ones up, I wonder? You really make the accent wall stand out nicely with that peacock/rooster art. Very nice!
I am in awe that you found that bed covering for just $5!!! Why can't I ever find deals like that at HG???
I don't blame you for not wanting to put a lot of money into this room, but with the touches you added you have made it look like you did anyway!!!
Loved looking at the transformations...your guests will be comfortable♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/lit-path/
Yea, the guest room is ready for me. It turned out so pretty, and I'd be very comfortable there. laurie
