Thanksgiving, 2012 Table

Just a quick post here to share our Thanksgiving dinner table. I am in Florida right now with my daughter, taking care of some exciting business, but I set the table before I left. I was not feeling too well when I left home so this table was put together very quickly in between resting and napping.

I am inviting some friends over to join us since I cannot have any family member come over. They all live in FL and they all have other plans already. This year, I made our table very traditional and will be serving very traditional Thanksgiving food also.

I brought my pair of candelabra from the French cabinet to use on the table. I think it adds to the formality look.

I used my Myott Queens turkey luncheon and salad plates. I told you it will be very traditional but I added a Princess House Pavillion dinner plate. I used oval wood plate chargers and my natural fiber oval placemats.

I combined Iris bubble amber goblets and green wine glasses, both of which I have had for years.

Wm Rogers silver plated flatware in "Exquisite" pattern.

For napkin rings, I used Southern Living at Home napkin rings which also doubles as name place holders.

I thought I would put "Her Majesty, the Turkey" on a pedestal in the center and be the main centerpiece.

I took 2 vases that were on our kitchen mantel and placed them on either side of the turkey platter. My friend, Noemie gave me the vases and I bought cheap fall colored flowers from the Dollar Store and made the arrangements.

I will use the orange vintage hobnail server for the gravy. I also added 2 simple candle holders with turkey on them.

Princess House "Pavillion" turkey platter matches the dinner plates. It is placed on top of a marble top Lazy Susan.

Turkey S& P shakers, Spode duck S& P shakers and I just added a twin dip container, maybe to use for cranberries. Not sure yet.

I think this must be my favorite tablecloth. I bought it from Roades, Greece. I just love the color, the material and the satin edging with embroideries.

Health Tips for Online Workers

Here is something I would like to share with you all. It's a great advice for us who are always typing away on our computers.

The online workforce has steadily increased over the last decade as more and more people are either spending part or all of their work week working online at home. While working in an online job can be a great convenience, it also caries some health risks due to the sedentary nature of the job. As such, we present to you some health tips for the online worker.

Take Hourly Breaks

Those who work online spend most of their days in front of a computer and staring at a screen. The staring alone can lead to eye strain, headaches, and even a reduction of vision over time.

It is recommended that office workers take mini-breaks every hour and step away from the computer in order to reduce eye strain. In addition, these breaks allows the worker to get a few minutes of activity away from the computer.

These breaks don't have to be long. Five minutes is usually sufficient. In fact, the United States Postal Service actually requires their data encoding workers take these breaks every hour in order to help keep productivity high.

Hourly breaks are not just for online workers. Lists of essential health tips for online gamers have begun to suggest these breaks due to the long hours that many youth, teens, and even adults spend in front of the X-Box, PC, and other consoles.

Invest in Ergonomic Equipment

With the increase of online and office related jobs, conditions such as Carpel Tunnel have seen an increase. This is due to the repetitive nature of these jobs. As such, it is recommended that online workers invest in ergonomic equipment.

The two primary pieces of equipment that an online worker should invest in is both an ergonomic chair and an ergonomic keyboard. An ergonomic chair helps to promote proper posture which can help to relieve backaches and other joint problems. The ergonomic keyboard helps to prevent Carpel Tunnel symptoms.

Another helpful ergonomic device is a trackball mouse. Many online gamers swear by these as they allow the hand to have natural movement and also reduce the likelyhood of Carpel Tunnel. The downside is that they do take some time to get used to. However, the extra time investment could prevent costly surgeries down the road.

The above tips are just a couple of the major suggestions for those of you that work an online job. There are plenty of other things you can do to improve your health while working from home, and we recommend that you do your research in your spare time. Online jobs may not have the same risks as an outdoor job, but they can cause some long-term health issues for those that are not careful. Incorporate the above tips and others into your daily routine and you will help stave off potential problems in the future.

"Sunday Morning" Breakfast

I woke up at 5 in the morning on Sunday and I could not go back to sleep. So what do I do to make use of my time? I did a breakfast tablescape for 2.

I used a chicken tureen for my main centerpiece and added some faux orange flowers in an orange pitcher and some candles.

I started with a lace placemat, tin lace plate chargers, then a Bavarian Tirschenreuth luncheon and salad plates, topped with a Staffordshire W.H. Grindley "Sunday Morning" English transferware bread or dessert plate.

I added a cup and saucer in the same pattern.

Bavarian Tirschenreuth plates, but I cannot find the pattern name. I love the simplicity and the graceful edge.

Teacup and saucer set is included in the Staffordshire W.H. Grindley "Sunday Morning" transferware. I really like that there is pattern inside the teacup too.

I have had this duck S & P shakers for years. I don't know why I have never used it but I think the color fits the season perfectly now.

Brown tin angel wings were used as napkin rings. I love the rustic look.

I bought the crystal stemware a few months ago from an estate sale in town. I think I paid $25 for 8 of them including 8 matching smaller dessert or appetizer stems. They are so delicate.

It's still very dark outside, lol.

The candle smells so good!

My favorite find for this past Saturday is this heavy wrought iron candelabra for $5 in a rummage sale.

Tea For the Dead

It's mostly brown, orange and green but this is mainly for

Beverly's Pink Saturday because she is having an Autumn Welcome Party. And what is the first thing that welcomes you in a house but the front porch? So, that is what I am sharing today, our front porch.

You will see this settee and 2 chairs with a coffee table on the right side of the porch. I placed some promegranates in a chicken wire bowl.

Getting ready for the trick or treaters on Halloween!

I decided to have a tea party with my friends while waiting for the kids. English fruits tea with Halloween candies.

I saw this lit maple tree at Kirkland's and bought it for half price at $14.99. It really brightens the area.

The tea set is Noritake Nippon Toki Kaisha. It is one of my favorites because it looks very southern. We captured the Blue hour. Look at that pretty blue sky!

Here they come! They came on a hayride and in truck loads.

John was busy handing out the candies while we sipped our teas.

The tea was set for the emotionless dead.

The Vampire princess and queen got impatient and hungry. They said, "Let's have tea now or else!!"

Flapper and Ghost of Christmas Past (who came early BTW) decided we better have tea before the vampires consume us both. Besides, the ghost is fading fast too, so we better hurry!
