For Sightseeing Saturday, I would like to share the church we visited when we were in New Orleans a few weekends ago. The church, though Moorish in architecture, is a Catholic church of Jesuit congregation called Immaculate Conception. It has this pretty vintage looking huge ornate door. If you want to read the hstory of the church, go to http://jesuitchurch.net/parish_history.htm
But before I show you more, let me show you my contribution for Pink Saturday, the pink Beetle we saw parked right by Roosevelt Hotel, where John's meeting was. If you want to see more lovely pinks, go visit Beverly at http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/
Just when I started to take pictures, a lady in a pink shirt and hat passed by. I thought the car belonged to her but she just passed right by it.
I also would like to link with The Tablescaper's Seasonal Sunday at http://thetablescaper.blogspot.com/
also with Scenic Sunday at http://scenicsunday.blogspot.com/
Here's a view of the church top from a glass door of the hotel where we stayed in.
It was so convenient. It was right next door to the hotel so we were able to attend mass twice that week, Friday and Sunday morning.
The church was so beautiful inside too.
adorned with wooden carvings with medallions.
The ends of the pews are made out of ornate wrought iron. Very pretty!

Wow! What gorgeous architecture, Christine! I grew up going to a church by the same name. Similar stained glass windows but no where near as ornate. Just Beautiful!!

I think churches and cathedrals are the most beautiful places to visit in any place. I'm either drawn to the simplicity or the majesty of them.

They don't build churches like they used to! I've always enjoyed touring different churches especially in Europe. The stained glass and statuary is so inspiring. Happy PS.
Beautiful church. I love to visit churches ... the older the better! Love the pink VW, too!
That is an incredible church. To these eyes, it would qualify as a cathedral!

Beautiful! I noticed the ornate woodwork of the pews in the first shot of the lady in red (and thought wow! is that wrought iron backs?) Wow! the wood carving on them must have taken a very long time! Everything was gorgeous, but I especially love the pews.

That pink VW is worth a lot of points in the game Beeter Beeter Bop Bop!
Your pictures of the church are breathtaking. Your camera must do very well in low light. I usually have difficulty taking pic in these large churches.
Absolutely loved the beetle. Hugs, Ginger
That pink VW is perfect for your Pink Saturday.
That church is beautiful, love all the photos and the pews are so different. I just love churches. I would love to travel the world and do a book on them.

The architectural design of the Immaculate Conception Church is quite fascinating. The outdoor and interior designs are absolutely stunning! Just by simply looking at these pictures, I can already feel the serenity of the place. I love the pews in particular. The wooden carvings and medallions are artistically done. A sacred place like this truly deserves to be adorned with exquisite furniture. It is a good way of motivating people to regularly visit the church.
