Mahogany Tea table

Today, I am taking you back to our formal living room. I have been looking for a small table to go in between the 2 chairs for some time. I finally found one when my friend Nit and I went antiquing downtown last week. I found this mahogany round table with 2 layers. I am not really sure what you call it this type of furniture. Let me know if you do please!

I like the beading along the edges and the carving in the center column and I fell in love with the legs. I did not want to put anything real bulky here because I want the table that is against the wall to show. But surprisingly, this little table looks light but it is very heavy.

I thought it would be perfect to serve tea in it. Place the tea and servers on top and then put the cups and sacuers underneath. Well, I am not really serving any tea right now so I just placed some knick knacks there. But, I am displaying one of my silver plated tea sets. I can always use an additional storage, lol.

I decided to accessorize the bottom layer with my 2 pairs of piano babies, 2 fairy lamps and a green glass basket and small vase. I found these latter 2 from a garage sale in Florida when we still lived there. It's been at least 15 to 20 years so they are old. I got the piano babies from Ebay about 2 years ago. The fairy lamps are from an antique shop downtown a while back but they are not antiques. I don't think the table is either but I do not know how old it is.

I love that carving.

Last Chapter of the Oasis

I originally posted this at the end of 2009. I would like to thank Chari of http://happytodesign.blogspot.com/ for the opportunity to show it again because it was an awesome trip, probably my best cruise experience ever! If you ever consider going on a cruise, I recommend taking Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas. It's truly awesome and there are so many things to do in the ship, you wouldn't want to leave it.

For Pink Saturday, I want to show you the Rising bar inside Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas. ship. The first pictures shows the bar high up there so you can see a big gap between the ground and the bottom of the bar. The second picture shows the bar midway. Can you spot all those pink neon lights? The water is coming from its bottom. The last picture shows it down where AJ can even reach to touch it. Isn't that pretty amazing?

This will be my last post about our trip on the Oasis of the Seas showing you the features of the amazing ship.


AJ had a chance to boogie board. She is under 57 inches tall so she was not allowed to surf.
Cany ou see the Atlantis in the background? Yep! We were in the Bahamas when we took her up on the deck for the experience. It rained so we decided not to go out of the ship. We have been to the Bahamas at least 6 times already anyway.

These are just pictures we had the porofessional ship photographer take of AJ. We thought the back drop being simple would make nice pictures. She is just growing so fast and we better capture every moment.


Another experience AJ enjoyed was going on the zip line. I was nervous about her going that I had to call her mom for permission if it was ok to let her go. And her mom said "No problem, she has done it before!". My sister who just turned 72 while we were cruising also went for it. Not me, though. I am a chicken!



Do you see the middle picture where it says "Oasis of the Seas"? Do you see the guy hanging on the rope in front of it? That's where they zipped. They went diagonally from one end to the other end, just hanging on that rope. Do you see how high it is with no safety net beneath? That's the reason I wouldn't go.

The entertainment was excellent. The shows were spectacular. Here are a few pictures of Hairspray, which was a broadway show shown while we were sailing. The Nelsons also had a phenomenal performance. There is another picture of them below. You will see the bagpiper going all around the deck.

So much to do, so much to see! Honestly, you wouldn't even have to go out of the ship even when the destinations were reached. AJ never went out of the ship. She stayed with the Voyagers, a 9-11 kids group, in the kids center. The counselors did so many activities with them such as playing games, dancing, adventure science experiments and many more.



There was a mardi gras parade, an ice skating show portraying a tribute to Michael Jackson. The Nelsons sang their dad's songs as a tribute to Ricky Nelson. I thought this cruise was planned just for me. What are the chances of a cruise having a peacock bench on the carousel? They must have known I love peacocks, LOL! And what are the chances of the Nelsons performing there with their dad's music? In case you do not know yet, although I have said it repeatedly, that I am Ricky Nelson's (may he rest in peace) #1 fan. Another thing was that they showed Ozzie and Harriet on TV and more tributes to Rick 24 hrs a day on 1 TV channel. So, I was entertained in the cabin too.



We all enjoyed the 70's disco.


The shows alone would have made it worth being on the ship but it wasn't enough. They spoiled us with unlimited scrumptious food too. Here are a few samples.


And kids were not the only ones with activities. They had activities for adults also. My sister and I went to a jewelry making class. Best of all, they give you the supplies for free. Because of that, I dragged John to a Scrapbooking class because I wanted to get 2 sets of scrapbooking supplies. LOL! And although he was the only guy there, he agreed just to make me happy. Isn't he nice?



My sister and I had a good time shopping in St. Maarten and St. Thomas. I asked the guy in stilts if I could take a picture with him and he went on top of me, LOL! I thought that was so funny.

The night before we left the ship, I saw this in the cabin. John had it delivered for me. Sweet huh! But I was mad because I could not take it home. What a waste. Plants, flowers and fruits are not allowed to enter US from another country. I hope the next cabin occupant got to enjoy it. I wonder if the steward threw it away though! Shucks!

Last Port: Costa Maya

Today, we will go to the last port of call of our last cruise, which was Costa Maya in Mexico.

Have you ever seen this type of hydrangeas? I am so used to the more common kind that when I saw this at Lowe's last weekend, I had to get it. I love the color of the flower, pink and green, so springy. You see it here already planted in my secret garden.

It's time to go to Costa Maya now. Again, my stepdaughter and her dh went on an excursion, so we got to babysit Holden. The 2 older toddlers were left at Camp Carnival. We really do not mind babysitting because for one thing, the baby is really good and who wouldn't want to spend time with grandchildren? Another reason is because we have been to Costa Maya in the past so we have toured it. I really just wanted to shop. There are more pinks to share here. See the pink building? We were just in the port, which was full of shops.

Costa Maya is one of my favorite ports They have really made it so comfy for tourists to hang out on. They have a huge swimming pool by the restaurants and anyone can swim for free and they have a lot of hammocks, chaise and chairs where you can just relax and enjoy the sun and scenery.

Just look at that huge pool! It wraps around the restaurant in the center of the shopping center.

John took Holden there while I shopped.

I bought the sterling silver necklace or choker below in Costa Maya. I saw it in a jewelry shop, really liked it but I did not like the price so I walked through all the jewel shops to look for something just like it, but could not find one. So, I went back, negotiated a price for the necklace and a pair of cuff links for John, and bought them for a price the seller and I were both happy with. I justified myself by thinking that we have not spent the amount that we decided to spend for shopping yet and this was the last port.

The necklace has a sterling silver Mayan medallion which could be a calendar or just ancient inscriptions (I forgot what the sales clerk said) surrounded by red and black corals. Alternating with the coral framed medallions are sterling silver rings.

Well Laurie, this was my favorite purchase from Costa Maya. Thank you for the opportunity for me to show it.

Mi Casa Es Su Casa

If you are following my blog, you would know that we just came from Mexico a few weeks ago so I have been meaning to create a Mexican tablescape ever since. And I finally did! Thanks to Susan of http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ for making it possible for me to share it with you.

Finding margarita glasses with a cactus stem at the dollar store added to my inspiration, yep for $1 each, and they couldn't be more perfect on this Mexican table. Thanks to Leigh at http://lbratina.blogspot.com/ for allowing me to show them to you on Thrifty Thursday.

I bought this little tabletop Mexican house from Cozumel. It really looks like a minature Mexican villa and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. You can also see the margarita glasses here. Don't you just love the cactus base? I added my faux palm and a bird taper candle holder to complete the centerpiece

I bought the dishes from Brylane Home (I think) a long time ago, or was it Boscov's? I buy so many dishes from everywhere that after a while, I forget where I bought which ones, lol. I do get a lot of senior moments now you know, lol.

Close up of the glasses. The green goblets I have had since I lived in Florida. My son and DIL gave me the orange flatware for a Christmas present in 2008. Do you see the paper lanterns? They moved! They seem to follow my tablescapes, lol.
I cut up some roses from the rose topiary, which you can see is full of roses, to put on my vases on the table.
The tablecloth is also from Cozumel, it is actually a Mexican blanket which was also a thrifty find. I think I bought 4 different colors for $20 total.
My veggie/herb garden is doing beautifully. We have been cooking and eating the herbs already.

And look at my grape vine! It's getting so lush and to think that it just started coming up from the winter freeze a few weeks ago. Do you see the tiny little grapes? They are all over the vine and they are so cute!

I know some of you want to see the lanterns lit. They are battery operated so you can put them everywhere. The bottom pic on the mosaic will show you.
