Cheval Mirror Refinished

I am going on a short trip so I don't have time to put pictures together before Saturday to take you sightseeing, but since my logo says events and shopping too, I will just show you what I bought, unless you want to tour our messy garage, lol.

John and I went to the antique marketplace to drop off something at my booth. I always walk through the other booths before we go home whenever we go there.

I spotted this wooden cheval mirror for $20. I told John that I think I can make it look better and sell it for more. So we bought and took it home.

As to be expected, John told me there's nothing wrong with the stain and I don't have to paint it.

But, I knew painting it will make it look better so, I took it in the garage and started working on it.

I wanted to paint it a cream color but my only chalk paint is this duck blue and I did not want to have to sand and prime it. So, I just painted it blue

I have this wooden crown in natural wood. I painted it blue also and added a mocha glaze on the outlines and glued it to the top of the mirror.

I just sanded the edges a little to make it look old.

and it's all done.

I am happy to announce that the mirror did not even make it to the store. My friend saw it and bought it straight from the garage.

From Blah to Blue!

I bought this table with an attached lamp from a consignment shop in Vicksburg. I wanted to paint it but my husband is always against painting anything stained wood so I brought it to the store as is.

It sat there forever. I just knew it because it was ugly. So, I decided I gave it enough chance and I took it home to be refinished. Here it is now in our garage.

See the pedestal table in the background? It will be my next project after I convince my hubby that it needs to be refinished. We bought it from a junk store for $40 and it is solid heavy wood and in perfect condition.

Ok, done! I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint in Duck Blue so I did not even have to prime it. This is the first time I ever tried that kind of paint and I love it.

I just sanded a few spots to give it a distressed look and then waxed it.

John bought this ugly TV stand for the kids' guest room while I was in Florida. It was gray and ugly and I hated it. As soon as I got a table that I liked better, I brought this in the garage and it stayed there forever until AJ, my granddaughter, was visiting here last month and we were looking for a project to do. I decided to paint this. I gave her a primer and she did most of the painting and then it sat in the garage again.

I finally decided to spray paint it after I was finished repainting the lamp table.

Do you see it in the background on the right? The paint was a little uneven. It's not wood and the spray paint would not adhere evenly but it's ok. It had an appearance of a cloud and I think it's pretty cool. It'll be perfect for a small boy's bedroom. I brought it to my booth to sell also.

I embellished the lamp shade a little, glued some of these feathery stuff.

I brought it to my booth last Saturday. I am curious to see how long it will sit there again.

What do you think?

My Sweet Daughter's Visit and Mardi Gras

Good news is that I had a wonderful few days. Bad news is that I am now sad cause cause my daughter already left.
But, we really had so much fun together in spite of the reason that brought her here, an outpatient surgery. You see, she wants to give us more grandchildren but after she had her first one 12 years ago, she was unable to. She consulted a specialist and found out she had a polyp just where the baby is supposed to be conceived and it needed to be taken out. I convinced her to have it done here because my good friend's hubby is an excellent gynecologist. And just as a good daughter would do, she took my advice.
I picked her up from the airport and then went to the clinic to pick up her pre op orders. Most of the afternoon was consumed by having all the tests done and over with. The doc. put her on a clear liquid diet the day before surgery so we took her out to eat at Breaud's that night and boy, did we eat! LOL! She really enjoyed the food. She ordered red fish topped with crawfish etouffee. The restaurant is one of our favorites in town.
The next day, I put her on our massager to relax while we watched a DVD.

Then, I took her to the store and told her she can have anything she wants for free. I cannot believe that all she took were 2 necklaces. Oh, she also reserved a toy chest and told me they will drive next visit so they can pick it up, so I tore off the price tag and the chest will be waiting for her when they come back this summer.

We ate lunch at a coffee shop but she could only have soup. But she was able to have a chocolate mousse for dessert too.
Her creamed squash soup was very good and my corn and crawfish chowder was excellent too.

Then, I took her shopping downtown. In between activities, we lounged and had tea and just relaxed by the pool.

The day of surgery came and they led us to a room. John asked (jokingly, of course) if they had enough beds for all 3 of us. She had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM so we woke up so early and we were still very sleepy. The hospital employee answered, "Absolutely" and sure enough, the room had 3 beds, lol.

And no, we did not use all the beds, only Rochelle did!

Modeling her hospital gown.

She's ready and just waiting for OR crew to get her.

Believe me, this was about 2 hours after surgery. I was so happy that she did so well. Rochelle got up from resting and said she was hungry so we went out to eat. John met us there and 2 friends, Debjani and Keka, came to see us to meet her.

This was a day after surgery. We went to my friend's mardi gras luncheon party. The food was so yummy! We even had a little karaoke session after eating. It was fun.

The happy Mardi Gras group.

I am glad my daughter got to meet most of my friends. Actually, I think she met all of them as I do not have a lot of friends, lol.

After we had enough singing, we went to the place where they used to trade slaves here. I told them about the chains that were used and still exist. I always get sad when I go to this place.

It so happened that they were having a Mardi Gras parade so we parked to witness it and joined the fun catching beads Don't I look like an Indian here? Lol! I was cold so I just grabbed a snuggie from the car.
We had so much fun collecting beads and we did not even have to do any exposing, (gross!), lol. I think we must have been at the end of the line cause people were throwing bunches of beads at us, some of them still in plastic bags, must be all the leftovers.
Rochelle upgraded her flight to first class so she was able to bring
another luggage to fit all the beads for AJ. They were throwing stuffed toys, mardi gras cups and candies too. I kept a few cups myself for future tablescaping, but I gave all my beads for Rochelle to give to AJ. She will definitely be in bead heaven when she sees them, lol.
Rochelle is posing here with my friend, Brenda. She is the very first Filipina whom I met here. There are only 6 of us in the whole town, I think.

This was the morning before we took her back to the airport yesterday. I miss her so much already. Come back soon, Rochelle!

I think she had fun, left me these comments on Facebook.

"Thx 4 everything, Mom! I'm so sad leaving! I enjoyed all of it - even the hospital was pleasant! LOL, Pls thank Dr. & Mrs. K a million x 4 me. Love u & c u soon!
I cried at the airport 'cause I didn't want to leave you..and I'm so old! LOL Yes, we crammed a lot into a few days. My only regret was my Wednesday dietary restrictions. We should've been able to eat better like the other days. hehe BTW, we had some of the crawfish and everyone loved them! Becky & Jed said they're staying here all day so we can eat them again for dinner! We grilled steaks, too."

Rearranging Table at Christine's Corner

It's my favorite day of the week so even if I did not have time to prepare for a tablescape, I just do not want to miss this event that Susan of http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ is hosting. We have been busy with company this week. My ex co worker who came for a visit left last Sunday at noon and then my step daughter and her hubby arrived at night on the same day. It gave me just enough time to change beddings in the guest room.
Today, my stepdaughter Heather asked if I had a dinnerware set that I can let go cause they could use one. I told her she can have one of the sets at the store so we went there. She picked what she wanted and I packed them in a box to be loaded in the car. Then, I noticed that my turkey plates are no longer on the table. They were sold! I hurried and replaced them with the snowman plates sitting on the next table, which I am showing you. Ok, you will have to forgive me because this was created really fast so it is kinda mix matched.
I actually have another tablescape that I creted tonight but I am busy cooking and I have no time to take pictures yet so I will show it to you maybe next week.

I just took whatever I could use for a centerpiece and I got ahold of the a mercury vase and a round tea light holder. The tulip candle holders were already there.

Then I spotted some red and white plate chargers that said "Believe" with a snowflake on them and I added those as one more layer, more like storing them there.

Actually as we walked out, I spotted a tall wooden angel with a Christmas tree from another vendor and I bought it and placed it as part of my centerpiece but I forgot to take pictures. I am going back on Friday to add holly berries in the mercury vase to create height so this tablescape is not done. I am also replacing the table runner into something more Chrismassy and replacing the flatware too. I will show the table again when it is complete to my satisfaction but for now, here it is!

Thank for viewing my impromptu tablescape. Thanks Susan for another table play time!

More Table Met; Grandkids and Halloween

I hope this week will be wonderful for everybody. Metamorphosis Monday is a good start.
Come and join our gracious hostess Susan, at http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/

Let's join Sally too for Blue Monday at http://smilingsally.blogspot.com/

And Mary for Mosaic Monday at
http://dearlittleredhouse.blogspot.com/

You wouldn't want to miss Kim's party either at http://savvysouthernstyle.blogspot.com/
It's not until Wed. so you still have lots of time to prepare.

You saw this at Kim's party last week. Well, it has not stopped transforming so I will show it again.

We delivered it to the store on Thursday, got there at 12:30 PM and I hurriedly created a tablescape cause I had to be home at 1 PM to open the door for the people delivering ma's walker. It was a whirlwind tablescape, lol.

But I made it! What do you think? I hope I did not mess up too much. I just used pretty much what I already had at the store but I brought the Queen's Myott turkey plates.

The men delivering the walker got to my door before us but they just got there, so everything worked out well.

I think the table is perfect in my booth.

Changed it again on Friday. I added a turkey tureen on the centerpiece.

Now, I just want to show you my grandkids and how they dressed up for Halloween. It looks like AJ did not dress up too much. Just some halloween socks and a headband and she was ready to take her mom's friend's little boy around their neighborhood.

What about my 2 grandsons? Do you think they are true brothers? I don't think Halloween is either one's favorite holiday, LOL!

You have seen this picture of Brendan. It was from last year or maybe 2 years ago, but it still makes me laugh. The picture below him is his little brother, taken this year. I just wanna pick him up and hug him to make him feel better. Poor baby! LOL! "Mama, please don't leave me here with this scary scarecrow."

They did enjoy dressing up though. Doesn't he have the most delightful smile?

What a change in mood, huh! Do you think the blue robot is a good contribution for Blue Monday? Tina said the baby did not take his hood off. It stayed on for hours.

Thanks, Susan, Sally, Mary and Kim for hosting these parties.

And thank you all for visiting!
