The Viking tour bus took us to Cochem.
I always love to see colorful houses in Germany especially when they are by the river and I like to see steeples amongst them.
This wall pretty much tells the story of Cochem. Cochem is surrounded by steep vineyards and quaint wine villages and you will see traditional half timbered houses everywhere.
I thought it was wise for the people in the olden times etch special events complete with dates.
We toured the Reichsburg Palace, also known as Reichsburg Cochem and Imperial Castle. It dates back to the 11th century but was conquered by the troops of Louis XIV who razed it to the ground in 1689. It was restored back in 1866.
The castle is perched on a bluff overlooking the town. This is such a breathtaking view! The picture does not do it justice at all.

I thought that it was interesting that they were using area rugs for a table cover.
I was in love with these blue and white pottery. A lot of them were chipped and repaired, some were stapled.
Anybody who stands under this angel chandelier was believed to have good luck so we all took our turns, lol.

Cochem is also known for the wine taverns and you can see the grape vineyards dominating the hills.

This looks like a gorgeous village. Years ago, when I was in High School, I was an exchange student in Coburg, Germany. It's in Bavaria, without the rive view but equally beautiful.
